Pupa : Tiger Beetle

Episode 3

Unlike other shorts the frustration of the running time has actually gotten to me in episode 2. Such a great concept that is going to, in my eyes, be ruined by a diminished run time.

Lets hope it really makes up for this.

***SPOILER***

OK.

So already this has gone off the boil for me. It had a strong start, you could see the weakness of the time slot in the second episode and then this goes suddenly straight off on a tangent.

It really is a problem with the running time because with a longer running time all of what happened up until being in her head in this episode would have been episode one (with the teddy bear "this is our life" scene pre-credits.) That would then lead into this episode where the transaction between real life and this dream sequence would have ran smoother, and every scene would have been extended so that instead of worrying that suddenly Yume was giving Utsutsu a blow job and being a little relieved she was just eating him again (no, no double meaning there at all) you'd have understood what the fuck was going on.

I think they've turned from psychological horror, using the background and characters to creep you out a little bit mentally, to trying to shock you.

And that wasn't shocking.

It wasn't even particularly gruesome.

It kind of just happened.

So where the hell are we? In her head? So in her dream she can't help but eat her brother, she didn't eat anyone else passing her by in her dream state so why him? And why is that cat in her dream world?

There needed to be an explanation of some sort to give us the flow of the story.

There wasn't.

And there wasn't because they only had about 3 minutes to make a point.

Did they?

No.

And this is why this is going to end up being the biggest disappointment I've ever seen.

It is wonderfully dark and sinister at times, and now it is kind of jumping from tangent to tangent.

AND ITS ONLY EPISODE FUCKING THREE!

Sorry I should keep my cool but I just see no point for the short running time whatsoever. It is ruining what could be a great series.
