Mahou Sensou : Another World

Episode 2

Well that was quite a beginning really, all the action lead to a rather exciting introduction to this rather interesting world.

For every uninteresting first episode, or lukewarm one, it really fills me with sunshine, rainbows and buttercups for such a fast paced, action filled intro.

Bring on more!

***SPOILERS***

The second episode stands up well to the first, of course it is a lot slower and we get a lot of information given to us to keep in the loop, it was also a little corny for my tastes but more on that in a bit.

So we now know a bit about magic (the six different ancestral types) and we've also found out what happened to the world. In 1999 the leader of the Ghost Trailer tried to destroy Earth and the non-magic community but 15 Magician's from other communities split the world into two. Also one of the most powerful Magician's cast the spell to make sure you couldn't use magic on another Magician in the Living World. They made a pact to keep the war in the Ruined Lands and that is about it.

It actually is really interesting and I would like to know what the other 15 communities believe in. There sounds like there is a real Harry Potter feeling to some of them what with some people being Pureblood and all that. Mui said that before Takeshi makes his mind up he should consult her so I'm hoping we get that at some point.

The school itself seems like a lot of fun, I do like Isoshima and Ida a lot and wished that we got to see Ida lose control of his magic. At least their teacher seems to understand, I also don't know why Isoshima worries too much about what they call their class because at the end of the day they've only JUST got their powers, they could easily be moved after they've learnt about it but they don't know the slightest thing about it yet.

I'm not sure I'm liking the Mui/Takeshi team up, some how I just think its sad that they got split up and Mui started telling Takeshi things that the other two won't know, I also don't like how Mui so far only seems to care about Takeshi. It was her fault all three of them got changed and its obvious Ida and Isoshima have stayed for Takeshi but at the moment it feels very much like Mui wants to keep him for herself.

It doesn't help when the cheese kicks in, oh yes he's got one of the 15 Magician's who split the world in two's sword now. Because he's an evasive magic user he didn't have a Aspect like Isoshima's lipstick and Ida's ring. So he goes to see Pops (who is weirdly drawn, his arms don't look like they've been thought out right and his body looks strangely shaped) who gives him "Twilight" the sword which looks to be super powerful and probably means that Takeshi is going to be super gifted or some such crap which will turn into something that I really hate. Why do we need a chosen one? Because that is how I felt this episode started to make him look like.

Very Harry Potter-esque actually, other then the fighting and all that. Two guys and a girl (well two girls but I'm going off Mui!) and one of them is the "chosen one"....

Still saying that I still found the episode a lot of good fun. It didn't bore me with all the information it gave out and I loved the additional characters like Pops and their teacher.

I'm also happy that even though the director of the school looks young AGAIN she's sensibly clothed. There is nothing more annoying then a load of stupidly clothed magical girls running about the place! I mean the only magic half the time with them is how they keep their clothes on!
