Hoozuki no Reitetsu : Pretty Boys Need Love Too / Kajika (Crackling) Hell

Episode 4

Hozuki is becoming more rounded as the weeks go by. We know he loves cute animals, he hates Hakutaku and he's a heavy sleeper, not to mention his love for his Goldfish Flowers!

What a guy!

***SPOILERS***

Two very different stories this time around.

Very different.

The first was a bit pointless I have to say, basically Hozuki meeting with the police forces pretty boy. The joke was that even though he was slim and perfect for being a poster boy he actually wants to be a sumo wrestler. It was the least interesting part of the series so far.

The second half was a lot better, after getting annoyed with the new recruits Hozuki takes them on a field trip around hell and to meet Miss Mustard, a psycho bunny that has a thing against badgers. Now THAT was a story worth sitting through!

As I said the first one seemed more like another chance to go on about Studio Ghibli, comparing the ghost carts with the Catbus and all that. There seemed to be two separate stories in itself anyway, one of the police trying to apprehend Mr Lemon and the coincidence of Mrs Lemon having turned into a lantern in one of the Ghost Carts and then the meeting with the Pretty Boy (sorry totally missed his name!)

The second was so much better put together and had quite a lot of humour building up in it. It was on par with the tour for Satan back a few stories. It also was a great piece of imagery having these Demons who are training to be torturers going on a field trip like school kids!

And they needed to write a report but they all just focused on Miss Mustard.

Don't blame them though!

I don't know this episode just fell a little flat, the first half was that bad it felt longer then just half the episode, in fact I thought it would be all we got, thankfully the ending was strong but its a good thing that it came in at episode 4 because if one of the original episodes had been this weak there is a good likelihood I would have given up on it.

As it is I'll forgive it and hope for better next time.

I do like the kids Karauri and Nasubi, now they are hell of a fun and its always a bonus to have Shiro show up to accompany Hozuki on a trip.

I guess I kind of missed Enma this episode a lot. I wouldn't say he was integral to a good story (as the second half proved) but the first half didn't have anyone with that kind of sparkle to play off against Hozuki. You had Miss Mustard in the second half, it just didn't work even with Shiro in it.

Plus to be honest I just do like Enma, he is hell of a funny!

The weakest episode so far, but by no means a reason to stop watching.
