Nagi no Asukara : The Tradition of the Sea

Episode 3

Where did we leave off?

Akari's love life on the surface has been found out and Hikari is as grumpy as ever?

Sound about right?

***SPOILERS***

So Akari and her father are talking Uroko. We don't get to hear what they are saying though, even though its been weeks since I watched it the memories of how unfair the rules are hit me again.

The kids go to their old school, Hikari wants too blamme it all on Akari's boyfriend and then is really rude to the girls who only want him to calm down.

The girls find a red bellied slug apparently if when you tell the slug your true feelings it'll tell you whether they are right or wrong so Manaka tells him about Tsumugu. Hikari overhears her telling Chisaki her true feelings for Tsu but doesn't say anything.

Later that night he's at home with Akari and his dad and they don't mention their visit to Uroko's at all.

We get a sad explanation about Hikari and his sister, we find out about their mother dying and about how she gave up her dreams to work and he slowly comes to terms with the fact that he isn't angry at her boyfriend because she's finally thinking of herself and not him.

It is cute.

So the next day they go looking for Akari's "guy" he even steals a bike to chase after him when they see him leave in a car.

Hikari goes to punch the guy but gets caught in a net from Tsu's dad.

So the people of the sea have Ena on their skin, like scales of a fish. If Akari had a baby it wouldn't be able to live under the sea, her boyfriend didn't know about the banishment rule that they have, in fact he didn't know much about anything just like the others, then Hikari beats him up before Tsu's dad stops him.

Turns out that  Tsu's dad was from the underwater village so no wonder Tsu wants to live there and knows so much about it.

Turns out that Akari is going to give up on her boyfriend, that is pretty sad.

Manaka finally reveals that she hasn't got her fish any more and Tsu just laughs at it. To be honest I'd forgotten about the fish thing. And once more Hikari tries to start a fight, this time in a friendly way though.

Turns out that Akari's boyfriend is a dad. The dad of the dark haired girl that was leaving the graffiti!

The series really is quite sad, I guess it is more understandable now why people get banished for being with people on the land but its sad that they can't at least be nicer to them! Yeah sure the people that live underwater might be growing thin because of populating with people on the surface but surely if they didn't just banish people if things didn't work out or partners died they'd return to the sea instead of being stuck on land?

OK that won't always work out but it seems to be quite mean that you just get banished.

Hikari does my head in, there isn't any need for his anger at times and I'm not sure why we need to see that side of him continually. Why would that guy take a beating and why should Akari be fine with it and fine with losing the man she loves? It makes so little sense it is unbelievable!

Yeah I still think its harsh to force people to choose like that, at some point they'll have to make that decision themselves but having older fuddy duddies forcing their hands and making their minds up for them is unfair. As I said these kids have been forced onto land because their school closed, they seem to be the only kids their age in that village so what do you expect? You want them to fall in love and repopulate the village? Then don't send them onto the land where they can fall in love with a whole bunch of people!

It just seems really cruel.

The series itself is beautiful, I love the main characters (other then Hikari who is a ticking time bomb, rude and unneeded in most situations) and I do like the story hence why I get so upset about it all!

It was nice learning about Hikari and Akari though and it made you even more sad listening to her story. I mean it is super sad learning how she grew up trying to be like a mum to Hikari and now she doesn't even get the choice of what she wants to do when she's grown up.

As for the fact her partner has a kid. Well I'm interested in seeing where that one goes for sure! It'll be an interesting way to take the story.

So is this a affair? Is it just a man with a daughter? What is going on there?

The guy seems really nice though so I'm hoping its nothing bad.

And Tsu's father, I'm starting to feel more and more sorry for their family. But it is nice that we're learning about the people from the village through other people, its nice thinking that others care about them as well.

And I love their teacher!
