Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta : Thorny Path, Part I

Episode 5

What the heck is that coming through the door? Hoping Ao stays safe! Don't just stand there watching it gloop in!

***SPOILERS***

So the bag of gloop destroys the front of the house, it is actually some sort of dinosaur type thing.

WOOHOO we're getting into another fight! Bring it on!!!

I know I'm a week behind (computer troubles, work troubles, yeah I'm terrible!) but its as exciting as it was thinking about it last time out!

Hime fighting, now this is interesting. It was so awesome before she stepped on her scarf and fell over. It is the Mayor of the other town with his companions. The scary guy that was in the car with the Mayor activates the "Special Wide Area Anti-Daemon field" what a bastard! Poor Kyousuke. Poor everyone!

He seems to be testing the field, it effects the strongest Daemons the most and we find out that Hime is obviously in some sort Daemon. The thing she's fighting is only half Daemon so isn't fully effected. The fight continues and Hime does her best to stop the dinosaur thing from injuring her citizens. Unforuntately it is too much for her, they have her cousin Kohime and the only way to get her back is to relinquish her Mayorship to the scary dude.

Yea weakens the Daemonic powers in the town and as such memories she'd locked away return from 6 years ago. Turns out that Hime got her scarf from Akina, also turns out that by deleting the memories of her being a Daemon the memories of how she got her scarf were also wiped.

Ohhh Juri!

They read the Himemo, she's been keeping notes on everything and anything so Akina adds the note "Leave it to us" on her memo pad. Too sweet!

Well the boys have been let loose and the girls have a plan.

Something is going on that stops people from being able to leave town so they are all taking shelter in the community shelter.

Whilst the boys come face to face with their opponent Juri is trying to raise Hime's spirits. Turns out Mariabelle is being effected too so Yuhi gives them a clue, only Ao can find it so she uses her power to read the minds of everyone.

And they figure it out, Tokoyo Tower.

Now that is more like it! I've loved this series so far but this is just stepping up a gear! I don't mind if we have to wait for episodes like this because this was fabulous.

For a start I love learning about Hime, she's so interesting and I really hope that she can come and help! Whoever these people are (yes I'm a terrible blogger I totally miss their names every time they pop up!) have brought quite a dark story with them. There is still that tinge of humour in it of course and it still plays deeply on the light hearted stuff (stuffing their faces full of food, Juri etc) but it doesn't distract from what is a compelling and heart wrenching story.

I also love how they are exploring that important relationship between Hime and her townsfolk because of course if they hated her this would all be in vain but it is showing you why they'd never hate her. Not even that misery guts really does. She cares about every single person in the town and does her best to protect them, now that is adorable.

As a middle to a story this is pretty great stuff, it keeps you gripped and if I had't been a week behind I would have been screaming at my laptop about having to wait a week to see the next episode. The suspense would have killed me, it has perfect pacing and perfect timing.

The great thing about the last few episodes is that it has really made you love these characters, in a way we are close to half way through the series but at the same time we're relatively near the beginning so to have such strong emotions concerning characters we're only just getting to know is a good thing. You don't want them to fail, even Kohime being kidnapped means something big to us and she was only in one episode.

I think this series has really got the perfect balance of character development and story going and the pacing of the episodes and the rate at which the story progresses is nearly pitch perfect.

And I like how they showed Hime being weak (in a way) it is all too easy to keep playing her up as an unbeatable force, to let her show a soft side and to let her lose mid-season is great. Usually that is the cliffhanger for the big story at the end of seasons not for a mid-season story. Good fun though.

All around I loved the episode, the fight scenes are pretty great and I loved the dinosaur thing. Plus the bad guys look truly scary and weird.

What could possibly happen next? (well I'm guessing ful Kyousuke will be released! GOOD TIMES!)
