Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta : Thorny Path, Part II

Episode 6

The fight is on but now our team knows the weak spot of the enemy, surely the bad guys only have a short amount of time still in charge of this war?!

***SPOILERS****

Well the big problem still is that they can't leave town, so going to the tower isn't going to happen any time soon!

Kotoha has an idea she just needs sometime to get it to work. Kyousuke might not have that long. He wants to know why all of a sudden Morino has become so cruel.

After trying to escape Kyousuke is down, well that is their strongest fighter down. Ao used her last bit of strength finding them and Kotoha has made herself a bad as armoured train cannon. Everyone is using the last ounce of their power to defeat these people, lets hope it works.

And yes the field has gone!

Also Hime has gone before her hour was up, but I have a feeling that won't matter so much now!

Whilst Hime struggles Touka tries to wake Kyousuke up, and we get to see how the met Hime and Juri.

Turns out the old man can control "strikes" the thing that turned Hime and Kotoha into Daemons, he suddenly turns a load more little newt things into the big blobby dinosaur things.

The grumpy old man is surprised when they try to save his shop so gives her the True Dragon Lance or the Dragon Vein. Very emotional moments. Very well played!

Awww now I am suffering from wanting to know what happens next week now! What a brilliant note to end the episode on. Hime has finally become one with the Dragon and has her True Dragon Lance to fight these guys with and she finally realizes she has the towns people behind her too.

I have to admit that I've fallen even more in love with Kyousuke! Even in the face of danger he's giving orders to clean faces and straighten collars. What a man... Or ogre as it is!

Again another wonderfully put together episode, leading into a final battle (or maybe two) really well.

The important thing about these episodes, and something Uchouten last season failed to do, is keeping people interesting during each episode and giving them something new to go with. Uchouten failed mainly because most the information you NEEDED to know was drip fed through three or four episodes, as a whole the stories made sense but the narrative kind of wibbled (technical term), an example that did it the other way possible would be Penguindrum where you learnt a lot at the beginning of one episode just to have a lot of action and "things happening" without explanation for an episode or two.

You need to make each episode unique in its own right whilst carrying on a story. Most TV shows only have the two episode format now, sometimes they have over hanging arcs but they are usually season long things, again they work or fail on how much new information people are being given at the time, who its spread out and of course the final test is how it all plays out in the end.

So far this has worked because each episode has had its own little twist on the same subject. Friendship, companionship and what it truly means to work together for the greater good of the town and their friends. Each episode has had its own little thing, learning about Akina and his families past, learning about Hime and in this episode bringing all we know and putting it in a pot together whilst introducing the "speciality" of the man they are up against.

You aren't drowned with plot points or story motives, but it also isn't bogged down in mindless action for the sake of action. It has a perfect balance. And that balance is hard to hit to be honest.

Still the light and dark humour mixed in together to make one long and wonderful journey through what is actually a very serious and dark tale. The old man especially brought a bit of light, as well as a serious plot twist, when everything looked to be going wrong.

Everything in this episode just made you want more.

I loved it.

I guess the biggest thing for me was learning a little more about Kyousuke, I find him and Ao most interesting because they are Daemons. Why? Because there is so much of a story behind these two, so much pain and suffering that it is always nice to see how they came to be who they are. Finding out how he met Hime and Ao was sweet and shows why he looks out for her so much.

Just another great episode.
