One Piece : You are a rare and precious animal too

Chapter 22

We are looking for new and exciting adventures.

What will show up this chapter?!

***SPOILERS***

So Nami has fixed Luffy's hat for him but after prodding it a few times he makes a new hole in it anyway. Ohh Luffy. They quickly figure out they don't have any supplies with them though, which will make life tricky for them. Luffy see's a deserted island and rows towards it even though Nami tells them there will be nothing there.

When they reach the island Zoro is back to sleep so Luffy decides to leave him there and explore the forest. They come face to face with some.... Interesting creatures before being told to leave by a disembodied voice. The threatening voice doesn't stop Luffy and suddenly Luffy is shot. Of course it doesn't harm him but he doesn't like it and suddenly they find a box with hair...

The man in the box is called Gaimon, he's been stuck in the box for twenty years. We get an explanation of the grand line from Nami then Gaimon tells us his tale. Basically he was a crewman on a pirate crew and they came on the island looking for treasure, just as everyone had given up and left Gaimon noticed that no one had checked on top of the rock hill, he climbed up and saw treasure chest but fell back into an empty chest at the bottom and has been there ever since. He's protected that treasure for 20 years.

Luffy uses his abilities to get up there just to tell Gaimon that the treasure has gone. Luffy invites Gaimon to join them to find the "One Piece" but he decides to stay and protect the weird and wonderful creatures of the island instead.

Quite a sweet little side story between I guess two minor arcs.

I wish we'd seen more of the strange creatures on the island they were pretty cool.

It was a nice little chapter that had no real meaning to it other than to lighten the mood after a longer story.

Gaimon was quite funny though and I do hope we get to revisit him at some point. Not only because I want to see the animals but just because he was one of those strange characters that you'd just like to see again. Loved that he was able to get angry in an instant though.

Imagine being trapped in a box for 20 years though, his body would really BE box shaped! Now there is an image.

I do love how Luffy manages to meet people for the first time yet it be like they've known each other their whole lives. It is a brilliant skill to have (yes I envy a manga character) and totally opposite to Nami who just looks smug. I like her but she does seem very smug.

The chapter would have been better with Zoro though.... Just sayin'....
