One Piece : They call him Strawhat Luffy (Manga)

Chapter 2

Last chapter Luffy made a start on his journey on his own in a little rowing boat. The boy who had eaten the rubber fruit and became a rubber man was on his way to become King of the Pirates....

***SPOILERS***

It is nice to see that he still has the scar from plunging the sword into his face 10 years ago, but Luffy is on his way to make friends. He's ridden into a huge whirlpool and is just laughing it off like a true pirate probably would.

We go on board another pirate ship captained by Iron Bludgeon Albida who doesn't like her ship being dusty or else she bludgeons people to death by the look of it with a giant mace! A barrell of sake is washed up on shore and the crew decide to share it amongst themselves but it isn't sake in the barrell its Luffy.  Albida heard Luffy say he had been having a nap and took it that her crew had said it so comes down to shout at them and they tell her about Luffy, but not knowing his name they believe it could be someone coming to capture Albida. The notoriously evil Roronoa Zoro...

Coby has gone to find what happened to Laffy who is still in his barrel. Luffy doesn't seem to care about Albida he just wants a small boat to be on his way again so Coby shows him the boat he's been building for two years (how cute!) it turns out Coby wants to run away but he doesn't have the guts to do it, he got caught by Albida and became the ship caretaker to stay alive. Luffy thinks he's a wimp and doesn't like him and when Coby asks him why he is sailing Luffy tells him "I want to become the Pirate King!" Coby tells him it would be impossible, all the pirates are looking for the greatest treasure in the world the "One Piece" but Luffy just wakes him because he can't stand him. At least he's straight to the point! It turns out that Coby wants to be a marine if only he'd be willing to die for that dream....

Whilst shouting about how if he became a marine he'd be able to arrest Albida of course Albida comes crashing into the scene overhearing it all. She smashes up the boat he's been making for the last two years and whilst Coby is shaking in his boots Luffy asks who the rude women is... Luffy seems to have rubbed off on Coby who calls Albida the rudest damned bitch, go Coby! Luffy takes the blow from Albida as his rubberness means he isn't effected, he uses his pistol punch to defeat Albida and demands a boat for Coby so he can go join the marines.

On their boat and Luffy tells Coby he is looking for a strong crew included Roronoa Zoro and on the boat travels to the marines base...

I really like Coby he's such a dork.

Luffy being so forward and straight to the point is funny, I can see that mouth of his getting him in trouble a lot, but it could be boring if he can never be hurt because he's made of rubber. I'm hoping that this is just a beginning of the manga thing because it could be quite boring knowing he could never really get hurt.

Albida was so funny! The big fat female pirate going on about being the most beautiful women in the whole sea, though it also just made me laugh out loud that she was hitting people with a mace.

I'm interested in seeing if Albida tries to get revenge, that is one enemy Luffy probably has from day one!

Roronoa Zoro... Now that will be a name and a half to remember! I'm guessing the next chapter will deal with finding him?

I quite like the fact this is just one epic adventure, there is a goal at the end of this whole thing. Why I like that type of story is that you get engrossed, I'm guessing people who have read from day one have been waiting patiently through stories to find this "One Piece" and as long as the story is a good one you do become part of the crew. So far it is hard to say if that'll happen seeing we have only really seen Luffy on this journey in one chapter and he hasn't actually done much to GET to that goal yet. In fact I'm more interested in seeing if Coby decides that the Marines is the place for him or whether he decides to stay with Luffy or become a pirate. If he does become a marine I will be interested to see if he gets very far and if he does have to come up against Luffy later on!

I enjoyed the chapter but it really was Coby that stood out in the chapter, Luffy was really in the background and if he doesn't change his attitude sooner then later will become very one dimensional and boring. I'm not saying he is yet but there is only so much of this attitude that I can stand before wanting someone to get the better of him.

Not a bad second chapter, not the best either but it didn't destroy my interest in the series yet.
