One Piece : Pirate hunter Zoro enters (Manga)

Chapter 3

After saving Coby from Iron Bludgeon Albida, Luffy sets sail with him towards the marines base to find Roronoa Zoro to see if he'll join Luffy's "Crew"...

***SPOILER***

Coby tells Luffy why Zoro is known as a monster. Luffy is determined to see if he's a good man though (Coby does point out he was arrested for being a bad man).

They get to the marines base which seems to impress Luffy, Coby then tells him he needs to get a good navigator but it seems Luffy is hungry. At the restraunt and Luffy and Coby are about to say goodbyes when the other guests start to behave weirdly after they mention not only Zoro's name but Lieutenant Morgan's name.

Whilst Coby is still pondering the way the villagers reacted Luffy is trying to find Zoro peaking over the wall of the marines base and running off. Yes they seem to have found Zoro right away. He's tied to a stack in the middle of the grounds, Zoro notices them staring and asks them to untie him, he offers to hunt fugitives for them and let them take the reward. Whilst Coby is trying to convince Luffy to leave him someone else puts a ladder to the wall. The girl has come to give Zoro some rice balls but he doesn't want them.

Suddenly Lieutenant Morgans son Helmeppo arrives, he seems like a total bastard shouting at the little girl because she wanted to make the rice balls sweet so put sugar instead of salt in them and then smashing them into the ground. Helmeppo makes one of the guards throw the girl out of the prison and tells Zoro that if he lives for a month he'll be let free. When he's gone Luffy enters the ground to talk to Zoro telling him he's a pirate. Zoro asks if he thinks he's going to force him to join his crew after he saved him and Luffy says he doesn't know seeing everyone thinks he's a bad guy.

Zoro eats the rice ball even though its been squished into the ground and tells Luffy to tell the girl that the rice ball was lovely, what a nice guy!

It turns out that Zoro was arrested because he killed Helmeppo's pet wolf after it was let to run around the place and scared everyone. Just then Helmeppo arrives in the village telling everyone he is going to execute Zoro in three days, and so Luffy hits Helmeppo and tells Coby he has decided to ask Zoro to join him.

Now that is exciting though why Zoro would want to join a kid in a rowing boat is beyond me even if he did save his life!

Helmeppo is pathetic, I disliked him from the moment he walked into the manga, ugly little brat. And how he treated the poor little girl... Good way for them to instantly make you hate a character!

Luffy was more interesting in this chapter to be honest, any thoughts of him being one dimensional vanished (though I'd still dislike it if he was invincible) and the way he's going to look for the good in people is fun.

Zoro also seems sweet and just like Coby in the last chapter I have instantly liked him. That is the one thing I have so liked about the series so far is that all the characters have been likable and all the bad guys have been annoying and despicable.

Plus what a change it'll make having the good guys ACTUALLY being the bad guys....

I'm hoping this means that Coby will end up being on Luffy's side, that would be quite sweet! I do like Coby, he balances Luffy's hopeless dreaming out with the reality of the world. I like that. They made a cute double act.

So we might have a few members of Luffy's crew now? They don't look like much if this is what they end up with? And why the heck would the Lieutenant of the Marines let his son get away with terrorizing people? Why is someone who goes out catching bad guys seen as such a scary person in a village that is being terrorized by a bastard son of a Lieutenant?! That bit makes no sense to me at the moment, hopefully it will at some point.

The girl is cute she can stay....

Again another fun chapter I'm really getting into the whole pirate thing, Luffy is a good laugh and you can tell we'll have many great adventures ahead of us!
