Makai Ouji: Devils and Realists : An Old Love Story

Episode 4

So what happened last episode?

There was something about a exorcist and some other stuff ohh.... AND KEVIN JUST JOINED THE SCHOOL! KEVIN IS BACK!!! KEVIN!!!

I am not biased at all with favorite characters. Ever.

***SPOILERS***

We start the episode in the only place we really could. With Kevin. We also find out that before the Crimean War Kevin had a brother, we have to call him Pastor Cecil? Nooo what about cute and cuddly Kevin? It doesn't bother me, one way or the other he's still Kevin the awesomest to me!

Ohhh Kevin.

And the look Dantalion gave him, what is going on there?!

You'll be happy to know I have all our main characters names burned on my brain. Not just Kevin. In fact I might just stop typing Kevin from now on to prove I'm not obsessed with him. Dantalion's bats are still following William around poor William, he's called to sort out a fight that seems to have ended in a window being broken (or at least some playing about that ended in the window being broken.)

Suddenly they can't really say they know much about their dorm mother or whatever they called her Miss Mollins. She seems creepy though personally. But the three trouble makers decide to sneak into her room to find dirt on her. Sytry is pretty cute, not as cute as Dantalion and his love for sports.

The Head Boy suddenly appears then wanders off pretty fast, he now seems to be following William. After he disappears William goes to check on Miss Mollins whose calling for someone called Camio? She has a magic circle on her bedroom floor.

Poor William, sports isn't really his strong point.

So the Head Boy... Maybe he isn't following William but Miss Mollins?

Dantalion knows something is up, he's a clever one he is.

Nathan Caxton that is the name of the Head Boy and he is a Demon.

Miss Mollins has opened a gate to hell and it ends up being Sytry that is going to sort the problem out not Dantalion, which is a nice surprise. Well Sytry was only doing it for his own benefit but Camio comes to save her before anyone else has a chance to do anything. Camio is a Pillar of Solomon. A Great President of Hell, 53rd in the Demon whateverey. He's a halfling, having been born in a mortals womb.

Such a sad story, they fell in love at Jacob house when she was young, her parents forced them apart and she was left to grow old on her own, after all Camio doesn't age. She's dying and wanted to see Camio one last time as she had spent her life alone, she wanted to be turned into a Demon to be with him.

Dantalion reminds them both that if she becomes a Demon she'd be a Nephilim like Dantalion is, and then we get a flashback to Camio with Solomon. Again Camio looks much cooler as a Demon then when he's humanoid. William tells Miss Mollins to go get treatment and she agrees.

Can I just say I was terrified that this whole "Love Story" thing was going to be pretty gunky stuff between Dantalion and Solomon I'm happy that it ended up being Miss Mollins and Camio. I don't actually know what I was thinking it was going to be, Solomon seems to be very... Friendly with his demons and I don't think I could take something more weird then him hugging them all.

As it is what a sad story! I nearly cried listening to it, poor Miss Mollins! It really was a really sad story and I feel so sorry for her. But at least Camio now has friends with Dantalion, William and Mr I'm-Gonna-Stuff-My-Face Sytry.

The episode once again was just perfect, it is the perfect replacement for Karneval. Serious yet funny, sad yet uplifting. All the characters are not just beautifully drawn but have their own wild characters and are as real as can be in a fantasy world (lets not forget that half of them are Demons!)

I'm growing to be very fond of William I have to admit, he seems like a really nice character deep down, probably spoilt most of his life and with people like Isaac looking up to him he never really got over being "special". Now he is even more special but he has friends, something he didn't really have before by the looks of it. Yeah Sytry and Dantalion are just trying to become Interim Leaders but to be honest... They get on. He's making a bond with people (demons) and I doubt he's had a bond at all with anyone in his life before now.

Kevin was the best part of the episode, though why he has to be so mean to William I don't know especially as he only seems to REALLY have come to the school to be close to William. Kevin you make no sense!

I enjoyed the story so much, it really was such a heartbreaking Love Story. As Beauty and the Beast once proclaimed a Tale as Old as Time...

It helps that you instantly can care about characters and their causes in this series, it doesn't take you a while to care you just instantly do care, maybe it is just because it is so beautiful or maybe its because within such a short period of time they are able to tell you a story that is heartbreaking, cause lets face it a half Demon half human who fell in love with someone who is going to grow old and die whilst he stays the same?

It really is a story that has been done time and again in movies and on TV but it is one that always hits home. If you are immortal, if you got your wish to live forever you'd have to see all your loved ones die, never be able to settle without losing the people you are close to, you'd be surrounded by BILLIONS of people but live alone in fright of losing people. So when you do fall in love... Jebus poor Camio!

I really loved the episode, this is the best anime of the season. The style is so similar to Karneval but the story is a thing of beauty all of its own making.

I just can't tell you how much I love this series, it is the high point of the season.
