Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka : Whoa, Am I Glowing

Episode 4

So yes it has been a while and I hope to get all the episodes up to 7 done today but that depends how many I get to watch leading up to today. I keep saying I'll catch up and then before I know it one review takes forever and I never make it to Zombie Desu Ka.

As I've said countless times I have a new puppy that I have to look after and not enough time or energy to watch anime or write blogs. Sad but true.

Anyway last episode (which we all watched a long time ago!) Orito finds out that Ayumu is living with three girls, they go bowling and afterwards visit another victim of the serial killer who tells Ayumu that she remembers seeing Eu at the scene of the crime.

So after way too many weeks of waiting for it, lets find out what happens next!

***SPOILERS***

Haruna is in the kitchen making tea for everyone with the help of Sera. Eu and Ayumu are watching TV (still his day dreams match Ringo's in Penguindrum!) and he doubts that it could really be Eu that did anything.

Whatever it is that Haruna has made just doesn't look intising at all. It is the first time Sera cooked and she makes Ayumu eat it.... It melts his bowl and spoons and everything... He is just lucky he's a zombie I guess! The minute he wakes up and they make him go and make something edible but he just orders pizza. Seafood Shrimp and mayo... sounds like a lovely pizza.

Haruna is looking for an artifact called "fear" apparently its a square soft thing. Some weird dog guy Kerberos Wansward the watchdog of the underworld comes knocking on his door looking for Ayumu. He is a Megalo. Kerberos knows Eu and tells them that Eu is pushing herself helping Ayumu. He apologizes and leaves to take the soul of a person being killed in the area, this sets Ayumu off who chases after Kerberos to find the serial killer. Kerberos tells him that when Eu takes pain from others she takes the pain for herself. The fact she never mentions it is her kindness.

They find the house and Kerberos tells him that a lot of souls haven't been making it to the underworld and he thinks they have been sacrificed and that a sacrificed soul gives unbelievable power. King of the Night is the name of the serial killer and it turns out he's in the house with them. Both Kerberos and Ayumu get stabbed in the chest by the sword and just like last time he can't move and he doesn't see a face. Kerberos uses his last words to tell Ayumu he can't let Eu be sad.

At home and the girls have all eaten the pizza, Eu is the only one awake and Ayumu asks to talk to Eu alone.

He asks Eu why she suppresses her feelings and she finally lets him know.

"The string of fate wiggles along. A strong magical presence will cause it to wiggle more violently. Disturbances and uncertainties cause my magic to lose control. It affects the string of fate and changes reality. That is why I must not express emotions."

"I cannot speak because my words carry magic. I must never speak."

Very sad words to add to a very sad character. There is a lot of character background in one small scene and its heartbreaking even though she's not actually talking. She uses her armor to suppress her magic and her magic will still be there after her death. She thinks that Ayumu will hate her but obviously he doesn't, the same as us he just see's a lovely and lonely girl. Poor Eu!

In the morning and a giant whale Megalo is gliding over the city, Sera with Ayumu flies out to meet it. Apparently (according to the night dress clad Haruna) it is a Triple A Class Megalo. Yes it is that time again for Ayumu to become a magical girl! Ohh I love this part of the show! To be honest the Megalo and Ayumu make enough mess before they actually get a proper hit on the beast. Sera makes her sword stupidly big to make a cut in the whales neck before Ayumu using all of his Zombie/Masou Shoujo powers to kick its head off. 1000% is the cutest of the cute, what a brilliant magical girl he makes!

Later and the girl in the hospital is finally killed by the serial killer.

How I have missed this series! It goes from the dark seriousness that had me welling up in tears for Eu to the stupidity of 1000% Masou Shoujo cuteness. I mean what the hell?!?

The best part of this episode was that we learnt so much about Eu, it wasn't boring or anything like that which could have been a problem with a character that doesn't speak. It was sweet and really the saddest thing I've read for a while. It makes it feel impossible that Eu could have anything to do with the serial killer.

It is quite something having a house full of really different yet entertaining characters. I've missed how Sera can be so serious whilst insulting and helping Ayumu at the same time, whereas Haruna is just a darling little character. I guess the time to learn more about them will come, but today was really Eu's day.

The whole Serial Killer thing is really interesting, I really do wonder what he is up to. It doesn't seem he is just some random person killing people randomly there has to be a reason behind it as he is sacrificing them. Even when he's killed he still lurks around the place as well as Ayumu found out this episode.

The series has just about the right balance of funny WTF moments and really serious and dark moments. After such a serious story as the serial killer arc is and finding out all the sad reasons why Eu can't show emotion or talk ending with the fight with the Megalo would have been brilliant but they went one step further and trailed back to the story line and had the girl in the hospital killed.

So what has Eu got to do with these killings? We know she can't be the serial killer now because people were killed and Eu was with Ayumu so why would she have been there at one of the killings? Maybe she tried bringing other people back as zombies before Ayumu?

I really hope I get all the episodes reviewed properly this week for you as just this episode reminded me how brilliant the series is and I don't want to stay stuck here for ages. Lets hope in an hour or two you are reading the episode 5 review!
