Kore wa Zombie Desu ka : Yes, That's Kyoto Tofu

Episode 5

Last episode the serial killer killed twice more whilst Eu told Ayumu all about why she can't talk or even make a noise.

It was all sadness and tears really.

Will the serial killer kill again?!

***SPOILER***

For some reason we start the episode with Sera sucking Haruna's blood...

Obviously as a vampire she needs to have bloody to survive so it all makes sense in the end. Haruna is still losing all her power the moment she transforms. As she is usually quite a funny character I don't think people realize how much losing her power has effected her, poor little thing.

Whilst the girls have a bath together Ayumu talks to Dai-Sensei who tells him that she has problems remembering names and places she was meant to go to Kyoto for tofu but instead went to Tokyo. Apparently she has learnt one name though and that is Ayumu's. Dai-Sensei kind of confirms she is a genius but just finds things uninteresting so doesn't remember them.

After finishing on the phone with Dai-Sensei Ayumu gets a call from a girl called Kyoko they seem to be really friendly with each other. OK so the girl from the last episode wasn't Kyoko.... I'm confused but never mind.

Somewhere in the dark outside we see Kyoko's silhouette walking away from a load of phone boxes? Even more confusing.

He goes to meet her in a graveyard but Eu asks him not to go, he goes anyway and Haruna tries to follow but when he notices her she leaves and is angry at herself. Hmmm what is going on there? Kyoko brings the tofu that Dai-Sensei wants and Kyoko asks to volunteer herself as Ayumu's girlfriend..... Before stabbing him through the back with the sword. It turns out that she is the serial killer. It turns out that she is a magical girl as well, a Masou Shoujou, she used mind manipulation to make Orito believe she was a childhood friend but she can't use it on Ayumu.

Haruna and the others followed him, or at least Sera and Haruna with the chainsaw. No matter what they do they can't seem to hit her though, she easily takes Sera down and she uses the same magic as a megalo. As there seems no way to beat her as they are Ayumu changes into his Masou Shoujou outfit with a resounding agreement with the three girls that he looks like a pervert.

To beat her they use misdirection, having Ayumu grab hold of her whilst Sera puts her sword through the both of them, unfortunately Kyoko was killing people to make herself immortal. Suddenly Eu shows up and the episode ends on a bloody big cliffhanger!

It is only episode 5 and the serial killer mystery has been unraveled. A little bit disappointing I must say but then who knows what is going to happen after they defeat the serial killer, IF they kill the serial killer!

Once again there was a really nice little character bit, this time with Haruna, explaining away a lot of her character points in a nice way that made you really care about her. I like the way they have done this with Haruna and Eu, it is easy to explain too much or make it boring to read but it really was nice. Especially finding out that she probably is a genius she just gets uninterested in things.

The whole group together make me laugh, and that is important because when they are in trouble like in this episode's cliffhanger you feel there is even more danger. If characters make you care enough to laugh you know that you'll probably end up terrified of what will happen to them when they are in danger.

I have to say I couldn't pick a favorite character they are all pretty brilliant in the series and they all shine in every episode. Their characters are so different that you can spend a chunk of the episode with them sitting around a table talking (or writing in Eu's case) and still feel the episode hasn't dragged. They are a decent group and all four of them are lovely characters.

I also like the fact that they have to work together to bring down Kyoko, too often you are introduced to a cast of main characters and then one of them becomes over powered and the "leader" to the point that they are the only ones that ever win (Natsu/Fairy Tail) but it has shown that the group is only as strong as their weakest point and by working together they can be formidable, they've just came across a even stronger opponent.

The episode was more of the same, fun, quick witted and excellently paced. I can completely say I didn't have a clue Kyoko was going to be any of the things she is, but it will be interesting to see what Eu has to do to stop her from killing them all.
