Hannibal : Buffet Froid

Episode 10

Last time out on Hannibal, Abigail told Hannibal the truth about her connection to her fathers murders and Will started to lose time completely.

With everyone telling Will he's going crazy and Hannibal juggling every secret, every person and every emotion as well as his secret double life as a cannibal... Well it is only a matter of time before Hannibal drops a ball, but will Will even be uncrazy enough to notice if he did?

***SPOILER***

We start by seeing a women come home, feed her pets and get into bed. Whilst in bed water starts to drip out of her ceiling so she gets her torch and heads on upstairs. There is a whole in her roof letting the snow in and unbeknownst to her someone came in that way. She covers the hole and goes back to bed just to notice the wet foot marks on her floor, going carefully over to the bed she gets grabbed from under the bed and that is it for her.

Will is with Hannibal talking about how crazy he is going with his crazy metaphors. Apparently he feels like he is fading, I'm happy that his dreams have faded so Hannibal gives him a fun game of drawing a clock face, he fails terribly and I don't think that has anything to do with him being special. He kind of scribbles it all onto one side.

When at home Will goes fishing, he then blacks out and wakes up to find himself contaminating the crime scene. He gets a dirty look from Jack for his efforts as well. Jack is now officially concerned for Will, he's finally worried about what he is doing to the man. The girl has had her face sliced open.

Back with Hannibal and Will knows that he isn't crazy there has to be something wrong with him so Hannibal sends him to a neurosurgeon to get a MRI. Hannibal goes with Will to get his scan, Hannibal is using his nose  to diagnose Will and gets it right, Hannibal convinces his friend not to tell anyone about Will's Encephalitis (not spelling that again from now on it'll be his E.Problem) whilst Will goes crazy in his scan. Now I feel sorry for Will because this is psychological torture, so mean to the poor man but Hannibal's face is just wonderful whilst thinking he has a chance to study him.

Hannibal is giving Jack a talking too about letting Will back into the field. Jack gives Will much more credit to survive, I don't think he realizes how weak Will is mentally though that is being helped by his E.Problem. If it hadn't been for the fact Hannibal knows what is wrong and is stopping Will getting help then I'd find his concern sweet, as it is I just love that he's got a bitch slap on Jack.

Will revisits the girls (who is called Beth, I knew this all along I don't know why she's been The Girl) home, and he finds another girl under the bed. She escapes and he manages to pull off what looked like the skin on her arm. He uses Hannibal's technique of saying where he is, what time it is and who he is to stop himself going crazy but the crazy is just going to carry on anyway.

He has quite a sweet moment with agent Katz trying to figure out who this girl is that murdered Beth, what is wrong with her and how he knows how she feels because of the comparisons with how he feels.

Back with Hannibal and he still can't draw a clock face and Hannibal helps him with the case once more giving Will a clue about what is wrong with her. It turns out she might suffer from a disorder that stops her from knowing she's alive and that she can't see people's faces so she attacked Beth because she felt betrayed.

The girl is identified as Georgia Madchen (I googled the last name) they talk to her mother who tells her that at 9 she told her that she'd kill her because she thought she was already dead, Beth was her best friend. Her mother doesn't look old enough to be her mother... And they still don't know what is actually wrong with Georgia, they just always guessed and the mother came with the same conclusion that Hannibal was talking about earlier, so little is known about mental illness.

Jack asks a question which I think someone should slap him with. "You had an opportunity to quit so why not?" ahhh because you THREATENED his teaching position. Stupid man.

Hannibal has his doctor friend over for dinner and they sit around the table talking about a pig. The doctor doesn't look too happy about hiding what is wrong with Will, Hannibal's attitude seems to be totally against that of his own. He was happy to begin with but now seems to be really worried.

Will goes in for another test but the test doesn't actually go ahead, there is no nurse so I can only assume that it was a guilty mind that made the doctor give him another one. Whilst leaving Will see's blood on a door handle so carefully opens the door to find the doctor dead in the same way Beth died (and from an earlier scene we know that Georgia has been following Will.)

Will thinks that she's after him because he told her that she was still alive. Back at home and Will is woken by one of his dogs barking, and man does he have an impressive collection of dogs, he looks under his bed to find Georgia sleeping there. Will use's Hannibal's technique on her and tells her that she isn't alone, he also tells her that she's alive. Such a cute ending.

Hannibal and Jack are back to talking about Will and we then get to see that it wasn't actually her that killed the doctor it was Hannibal. How much of this she'll remember and whether or not she can tell Hannibal's face  after she's cured.

This episode worked better than last weeks because it balanced out the story of Georgia with the story of Will without taking anything away from the other story. OK it probably only worked because it became linked in the end but it still worked better than losing the main case half way through an episode with a unfinished ending.

Once again Hannibal showed his dominance over Will, I'm not sure if he killed his colleague because he thought he was a threat to his research or a threat to him and Will's friendship as it was obvious that he was going to tell Will the truth. I'm not sure if Hannibal really is concerned purely in a selfish way or if his friendship with Will allows him to also show this selfish streak but to be honest he's still got Will's best interests at heart. He's marked Will out pretty much as an equal so I'd be interested to see where that goes.

As for Georgia, such an interesting character! Another point towards this season as a whole which hasn't shied away from making their characters darkly interesting. I really do hope that she can't tell who Hannibal is until later, especially as the show has a second season confirmed now I'd be interested if that is a plot line left dangling for a while. Obviously personally I'd like to see Hannibal free for another season at least because he has such an impact on the characters and their lives and it will be stopped if he's only there for intermittent moments when they go to see him. I like seeing him manipulate everything to his own design.

I'm a bit meh about Jack to be honest, he is showing concern now but it was barely two episodes since he threatened Will when Will wanted to go so how he can take the high horse now god only knows. I do like how Hannibal niggles him about taking some of the blame, Hannibal and Alana are the ones that LOOK concerned for Will.

I have to say that I think Hannibal's time is coming to an end as he seems to be a little more reckless now. I mean ANYONE could have interrupted him whilst he was killing the Doctor he was kind of lucky that it was the women who couldn't see faces, but even then she saw his suit, she saw the outline of his face. As I said earlier I'd like there to be another season with him out of prison but I think they are aiming to probably have someone figure it out in the last episode if not having him caught. I mean there is obviously going to be SOME fireworks during the last episode and I think its safe to say that the ball will be dropped as far as Hannibal is concerned.

Mads Mikkelsen has been wonderful the whole time though, he is a brilliant actor and the whole series could be terrible but his acting would make up for it. The tiny little changes in his tone and facial expressions is superb and he just brings Hannibal alive in a new and exciting way. He had a big shadow to step into but hasn't faltered once the whole time.

And next week Eddie Izzard is back *swoon*...
