Haiyore! Nyaruko-san : I Am Him and He Is Me

Episode 9

After being sucked into a dating sim and Mahiro finding out who he was most compatible with (kind of) everyone goes home.

What adventure awaits?

****SPOILER****

Mahiro revisits under the tree from last episode in his dreams, this time he tells Nyaruko he likes her and tells her to close her eyes, he goes in for the kiss and wakes from his nightmare. He wakes next to a hug pillow, a hug pillow with Nyaruko inside. So he chucks her out the window.

At school Nyaruko moans about things to Tamao who tells Nyaruko she should keep aggressively pursuing Mahiro.

Nyaruko is back to being her over the top self and we find out that Mahiro's mum is out monster hunting (with Shantak).

It seems Mahiro can't even take the lot of them to the mall without trouble and we find out that Mahiro actually suits glasses really well not that Kuko cares. At least Mahiro kind of tells Nyaruko off for being mean to Kuko.

Then the plot returns about the Dreamlands. You'll remember the Dreamlands from Kuko's first episode. Well for once we have an explanation on them!

And with terrible music Nodens is back with Luhy. Yeah it isn't anything cool its some kind of stage show for little kids. Luhy gets really embarrassed and runs off (I think she's super cool though!)

Suddenly Tamao is firing a gun at Mahiro... When he wakes he is back home but he's looking at himself talking to himself.... Tamao has changed him and Nyaruko's minds into each others bodies.

Yes it is going to be one of those episodes!

We find out it isn't Tamao but some other spirit, she was trying to get herself into Nyaruko's body but failed and the gun to change bodies is out of charge. She is from the Great Race of Yith. She is also going on about saving the Earth for its entertainment.

So for 24 hours Nyaruko and Mahiro are in the wrong bodies. And we already know that Nyaruko is going to cause so much trouble.

To be hones there were only a few cheap jokes about the body swap, but it was also quite sweet that Mahiro realized how delicate Nyaruko's body is and starts to feel more grateful for the things that Nyaruko does for him.

And at school Tamao and Yoichi aren't there but also... Nyaruko does what you know she was always going to do and marches Mahiro to the front of the class and announces that he (though of course its her) loves her (of course its really him) .

So what'll happen next week?!

The episode set up the next story pretty well, it explained things that before now seemed to have been totally forgotten in the background of a 100 other things. We've found out the real threat, we know what is really going on.

The good thing is that the comedy was still there though, the body swap is something that so many genres do that it is easy to fall into the stereotype comedy of it. Thankfully that comedy was hidden and only mentioned once the real comedy was left to the reaction of the other characters and how Nyaruko became super clever for a moment to ruin any chance Mahiro has of a quiet life.

I loved the episode even though I will admit it was pretty slow. The first time of watching the series it was about here that I lost a little interest in it, but on second viewing I can see the worth of the episode. It builds up the story slowly without over saturating us with information.

Personally Kuko has slowly became my favorite character and I have to say she's stayed the most alien of all of them. I love her reaction and her explanation. I still find (and it was really highlighted this episode) her actions being the same as Nyaruko (and Nyaruko having the same reaction as Mahiro towards her) a brilliant part of the episodes. But I also feel real sorry for Kuko (something I don't for Nyaruko) when she gets ignored and told off.

The episode was again getting better from the dip that was the mid-season episode.

What is in store for us next episode?!
