Wizard Barristers : Benmashi Cecil : Sword and Scales

Case1

After, in a way, suffering through Noragami all day this one seems like a bit of fluff to keep me happy.

Set in Tokyo in 2018 magical and non-magical people coexist and there are strict laws against using magic. Therefore (obviously, I mean even Harry Potter got this bit right!) a magic courtroom exists where Benmashi (wizard barristers) defend magic users.

Sounds alright! Lets give it a twirl.

***SPOILERS***

Now this is more like it. Really interesting concept really well done. It didn't bother to really explain any characters, it just got straight into the story which worked in its favour.

Kind of like any crime drama you see on TV but with a magic girl thrown into the mix.

There seems to be some strong themes running through it, they say people are coexisting but it seems that non-magical people are still very much against the magical people. They seem to just live with them but not accept them at all, and that is one of the really good things about the episode was that you got a feeling that no side is going to win in this. People don't like magic users (do they call them Wad's?) and magic users know there is no point in fighting the non-magical using police force.

The whole end of the story where one of the two big detectives sends people out to attack Cecil and Moyoyon just to see Cecil's magic and get her in trouble (and probably because its similar to whatever was used to break into the bank to blame her for it) shows that this is going to be a fight against two sides that seems to have to get on when they don't want to.

Away from that and so far there isn't much to say about the characters, Cecil is sweet but is just an average genius cute girl at this moment, her co-workers aren't interesting at all (other then being cool looking) other then the other newbie who looks like she's going to have a rivalry with Cecil (how dull!)

I guess the interest will lay in how this one plays out, this story has gone into two episodes but are we going to have cases of the week? Is the case going to come before characters? Are all the cases going to be interesting?

I guess we'll find out!

As for this case it was a bit bare at the moment, you could see an interesting method being used and see how they are slowly forming the picture of what happened but the episode just seemed to rush by in a flash and I can't say that I understood anything that WASN'T to do with the case.

But it was hell'va good!
