Noragami : Borderline

Episode 5

Slowly this series is starting to get better. For this week the last episode I'll be watching, its taken all day to catch up with them but I've done it even though by episode 3 I was thinking of giving up.

Getting a tad better.

***SPOILERS***

An interesting way to bring Yukine some development. Have Hiyori basically adopt him and bring him home with her. Boarderline is basically a technique used by Regalia to put a border between themselves and Phantoms. It seems that Regalia and Gods stay in their shrines or others shrines to keep them safe.

There does seem to be a very sad theme running through the series, there can't ever just be a random story that doesn't involve really sad people or spirits on their own and scared. It is an interesting way to go but also its quite sad.

I felt so sorry for Yukine, he's struggling himself and learning, he has problems knowing that Yato has had other Regalia and then when he finds the little girl spirit and she turns full Phantom on him (and he gets left in the dark which is his fear) it really is, great story telling but ultimately sad.

Once again it gave a refreshing side to Yato as well because no matter what he does that is stupid and totally random he cares. In his way he always cares. He cares for Yukine and wants to help him grow, in his way he wants to help Hiyori. He has his plans which seem, to me right now, to have a lot to do with wanting to get people to believe in him and give him better wishes so he doesn't have to hurt people any more.

There is a lot going on behind the scenes in this show but it isn't coming together very well, you can see all the good ideas weaving in and out of each other but right now it kind of has gotten messy. I'll keep watching because I do care about the characters and want to see what happens to them next.

I mean out of all the characters Yukine is suddenly the most interesting, there is nothing really to Hiyori any more she went from being an individual to being quite boring. She just follows them around and gives the human perspective from time to time. It would be more interesting if she got a little more individuality back.

All in all it was a good episode, it had an interesting threat but that didn't take away from the important part off the episode which very much was all about Yukine and him getting used to being a Regalia. I still would like to find out what happened to him because as far as I care he's the best character. Yato has interest in his background but it will just be the same as every other God in any other series you've ever watched. Yukine's background is at least at this moment a mystery.

I can't say it has lived up to what I thought it would be like but no where near as dross as it felt like it was going to get.
