Pupipo! : Next Stop, the Afterlife

Episode 5

Can we save Az or is it too late?

***SPOILERS***

So Wakaba and the Head are fighting on the train, if they cross the river there will be no way back for her.

And can I just point out how adorable Az is? I mean she had no friends and she refuses to die because she finally has a friend in Wakaba! So her face when she see's Wakaba coming to save her is awesome.

I'm going to say it now. This anime packs more of a decent story into 4 minutes then some TV shows/anime do in a series of 25/45 minute episodes.

When its over if someone cut and pasted them one onto the other and you just watched it all the way through it would end up being a genius bit of TV.

I mean the character development on Az was amazing, in one 4 minute episode you kind of know everything there needs to know about her, she isn't just that wackey occult girl anymore, now she's a proper full drawn character. Wakaba is growing episode by episode just by having a purpose and hope, Az being her purpose and Po being her hope. Its a wonderfully thought out piece with really lovely characters.

I like how they mixed comedy with drama, I think that is by far the most important thing in this show. It isn't too funny, it doesn't make fun all the time of the situation, there is enough real fear and emotions going on behind all the jokes. Its a lot of fun but at the same time the characters are in danger and they do have feelings. Az would be an easy character just to purely have being stupid all the time and facing her death with a "oh well" feel. It was nice that she had a moment and we saw her strengths.

I like that about it.

The series has gotten over the cuteness, Po is an interesting spirit and I'll be interested to know if we learn more about him. But the characters are so marvellous that I just can't heap enough praise on the direction that they are going in. Truly wonderful!
