Nisekoi : The Promise

Episode 1

So I've had a look at the synopsis for this series and it has me in two minds. It is billed as a comedy/romance and in part it sounds both sweet and funny.

The main character Raku Ichijo had a childhood sweetheart and he gave her a key to a locket he kept. Years later and he's forced into a relationship with a girl who has a mysterious key. Now that sounded really far fetched and terrible... But wait there was more........ Two other girls show up with mysterious keys!

Now this is going to have to do a lot to convince me but it sounds interesting.

****SPOILERS****

The very beginning of this anime, the bit that showed you the "promise" as it where and him giving the girl the locket etc was beautifully done. Like a old style video. Just lovely. Short and sweet too.

We then go to the more grown up Raku making food for his fathers gang. Yes his father is the leader of a gang.

And on his way to school he gets kneed in the face. Poor guy. The girl just so happens to be the new transfer student (who is surprised?) Chitoge Kirisaki. They get on like a house on fire! She whollops him one after he calls her a monkey girl. Onodera seems to have.... Seen his lost locket? Wait I missed out saying he's lost it and trying to force Chitoge to help him find it. Onodera is his friend in class and she seems to go red in the face when he describes it.

They make a great double act from the get go though which is good. It really does seem to play heavily on the comedy which is good.

Onodera does have a key.... Ohhh I think its her.

And right at the end he finds out that Kirisaki is actually the daughter of the rival gang and he has to date her.

Soooo funny their reaction to that news.

I actually LOVED this episode. There was nothing cheesy about it, not over the top or anything. It was just wonderful, funny and entertaining. I already love all the main characters we've met, Raku is a little over the top and so is Kirisaki but Onodera is a darling, his friend (didn't catch his name) seemed nice.

The style of the show was pretty awesome too. I could sit here and just giggle over Raku's reaction to everything all day happily.

I quite like that it isn't going to be an in your face romance, or at least it doesn't look that way to begin with. It is quite funny that these two are in a relationship against their will and that deep down they'll have to find a way of looking happy together.

It is an interesting dynamic.

And with the promise of being lots of keys and all that it could have some really good dynamics.

Reading the synopsis for this really put a downer on the season but I'm happy I am now a watch everything kind of girl because THIS is fantastic.

(Lets just forget I said something similar about ServantXService and gave up after episode 3 in the end.... Now known as the SXS curse!)
