WataMote : Since I'm Not Popular, I'll Think About the Future

Lament 12

It is the end, last week someone took pity on Tomoko, but with our last visit to our unpopular friend what kind of adventure awaits for us to say goodbye!

***SPOILERS***

She seems to have gotten used to her place in the classroom now, and as long as she doesn't leave her chair over the breaks it doesn't get taken.

We get a look at what she thought school would be like and then the reality of it.... We also get some flashbacks of what she has done. So she decides to look to the future! She calls Yuu for some help on deciding what her future plans should be and Yuu reminds her she wanted to be a arms merchant.... This seems to upset her even more as she didn't want to look to the past but the future.

So Tomoki and the talks that she forced on him. She decides she no longer wants to have "these talks" with him and apologizes for stopping them even though he didn't want them in the first place. Oh I do love Tomoki!

She oversee's someone being helpful and overhears how she is really cheerful, super popular and top of her year and that sets a light bulb off. What does Tomoko think she's going to do now?! Imae (the girl I was just talking about) goes to ask a teacher if they can change the potraits in the art classroom and Tomoko follows her and over hears.

Later she leaves her phone on record in her school book to see if anyone in her class talks about her, but when she listens to the recording she figures out no one actually talks about her at all.

Suddenly someone screams about a cockroach.... We get quite a weird scene with a small pixilated running man thing and then suddenly Tomoko stands on it, how am I sure this is a dream? Why would all the class be afraid of a cockroach and why would they applaud her for squishing it. Yes the cheering was in her head but she did actually stand on the cockroach and it had the opposite effect as everyone seems to not want to be close to her.

And still no one is talking about her.

Well they do, they think it was freaky.

So Tomoko goes to see if she can ask Imae (who I believe was the hero of last week) how she's so popular, she actually looks like she was stalking her, just as she got the courage to talk to her the wind blows up around Imae and her skirt gets raised and Tomoko gets an eye full of her underwear.

That is how we're leaving it? With Tomoko running for her life after seeing Imae's pants? Hehe Yuu see's her running for her life and chases after her which is quite comical itself.

It is nice that we got the last scene with Tomoko deciding it doesn't matter and smiling. GET IN THERE GIRL!

I quite liked it as a final story, the last moment is the defining moment as the rest of the story was like all the others.

I really enjoyed the episode and nice to see Imae being really nice, if there is a second series ever (which I think would be unlikely) I'd love to see Imae and Tomoko becoming friends. Not that it is needed after all it isn't like Tomoko is truly friendless (even if I think Yuu could do more to integrate Tomoko into her friendship circle, even just vaguely.)

I liked that we got to see a little of Tomoki, he's been lacking recently which is sad and I've always loved their relationship even if he is pretty mean to Tomoko (I understand though it can't be easy having a needy sister.)

We ended on a high note though.

First off the episode did what it does best and had a nice and not so abnormal episode with Tomoko. We also saw the attempts to sort herself out and integrate with the school even if it had a disastrous ending. Even Imae can see that she's always trying, which is true, in the end Imae kind of became the voice of people who watch this show. You don't want to take your eyes off Tomoko because she is always busy and it is interesting seeing what she does, how she fails or how she gets it right.

But not only that but the actual ending was sweet. The voice over talking about how she's unpopular and that her story doesn't matter followed by her turning around from the "unpopular person" fact sheet, laughing and announcing it doesn't matter.

A great episode and sad the series is over. Pretty unique to anything I've seen whether it be anime or just normal TV.

Again look out for the full series review in the next week or so!
