Makai Ouji : Devils and Realist : Vice and virginity

Episode 9

Things were hotting up last week.

The angel Michael was causing havoc for William and threatening Ecstasy on him. Not only this we get the news from Baalberith that Lucifer might be on the brink of fading completely.

Shame we can't say the same for Michael, bloody stupid angel.

These turns of event have lead Lady Astaroth wanting to bring William to hell to keep him safe.

How will that work out for them?

***SPOILERS***

So we start with the same speech from Astaroth we ended with. Michael has changed his mind and is sending a "witch" for Solomon. Jeanne. Or as we know her Joan of Arc. Gilles friend.

Interesting.

William goes to find Kevin but he seems to not be in his room. He finds the ring of his father... The ring of Solomon in Kevin's room and decided to leave it. We get a flashback of the funeral of Williams parents and just why William is so close to Kevin. Well he didn't leave the ring he took it with him.

Someone kill Michael he's being so mean to my baby Kevin.

Turns out that something has happened in hell and all the boys are going.... Leaving William on his own..... Not good with a crazy angel and Jeanne lurking about.

Heaven is going to attack hell apparently. Michael tells Kevin he has to make William Heaven's puppet before the Demons return then we get a flashback to Kevin attacking Solomon and demanding to know why he made the Demons into pillars instead of killing them. Yeah I realize that Kevin is called Uriel and he's the angel of Repentance but he's still my Kevin. His angel gear is awesome.

Kevin goes to give William Ecstasy but because he's such a Realist that it doesn't work so Raguel tells him he'll have to kill him. Gilles was off to save William but Raguel steps in his way. Their fight is intertwined with learning how Gilles became a Demon and other such things before Kevin steps in. Then when it looks like Kevin might be in trouble Dantalion steps in.

So everything ended fine... How they defeated Jeanne wasn't touched upon and Michael had a funny turn and seemed to do the right thing and just made Kevin leave.

What a strange ending.

So. What was going on?

Heaven and Hell are at war, Jeanne was sent to start the war whilst Kevin could then finish off William just because William isn't religious nothing an angel can do will harm him so they'd have to just kill him instead.

By the end of the episode though it didn't matter because everyone was back at the dorms and everything was fine.

I don't like Jeanne much. Waste of a character could have been much better realized. All the characters have been so cool so far but it was like they had to put a magical girl in so named her after someone everyone will know and to tie up Gilles story. Why the pink dress? Why couldn't she be cool like Astaroth?

Anyway leaving that aside it didn't really tie in with much that happened last week other than Michael being a pain in the backside. I'm guessing it'll be all out war from now on.

The individual parts of this story was good, I loved the Heave/Hell war and Jeanne v Camio (which I guess is still going on?) would have been interesting to see, maybe next week. The William strand of the episode.... I think I missed him being a major part of the story, he was asleep through 90% of it. He's also now got the ring.... Two stories that really didn't need to be interlinked. Then of course you have the story of Gilles, interesting as always and went from "yeah I agree with him" to "OMG EVIL DEMON OR WHAT?" which is what I love about the series.

So some interesting stories wrapped up together but for me each one was lost because of the others.

Now going back to Gilles. So far the first statement he made about Ecstasy and the angels being worse than the Demons I so agree with. For me look at William.

We love William, he's a bit of an annoying character because he's a realist and because he's always so sure of himself, but slowly we love him. He is William. He might have the blood of Solomon flowing in him but he's William. The Demons see him as William and Solomon, Kevin see's him as William with Solomon's blood but the angels? They just want to make him a puppet. The Demons will leave him alone by the sounds of it as soon as he's chosen the new leader. The angels want to take his identity away.

He is not Solomon. He is William. I don't care what magical reason we are meant to believe he is Solomon reborn we know he is William.

The Demons have been very open about their love of suffering and so on and they bicker and act like idiots. But they are Demons and that is how they are meant to act.

On the OTHER hand we have the angels who are just as bad as the Demons but apparently are good....

Haven't sen much of that so far!

Now Gilles himself, this episode was by far his best! I loved how you were lulled into a false sense of security thinking that he just wanted Jeanne to stop being the puppet of Heaven. Turns out he won't just fight for her to be saved he'll rape her and force her to become what he wants her to be. My breath really did catch in my throat as I listened to what he said and went from going "poor Gilles" to hoping that Dantalion and Kevin would blow his head off.

But I'm meant to feel that way about Gilles!

Gods only know why they are making me feel that way about Michael!

Not my favorite episode but some interesting points being brought up in there.
