Uchouten Kazoku : Taking in Fall Colors

Episode 6

So Yasaburo survived being eaten for the moment by entertaining a lot of silly old men and not embarrassing Benten.

We are slowly learning a lot about Benten and how she works so it'll be interesting to see what happens now.

***SPOILERS***

We start talking about Benten too, Suzuki Satomi was her name before Prof. Akadama (woo look see I wrote his name!) took her home with him and gave her a tengu education.

So after saying about learning about Benten are we about to learn more about her?! (To be honest if that was in the preview last week I've totally forgotten it!)

We do end up starting where we pretty much left off. Yasaburo and the other guy from the Friday Fellows following Benten on the rooftops. The other guy isn't going to give up! Well until there is too far to jump that is. Then she returns anyway and takes both of them with her.

We hear the story of the first meeting of Yodogawa and Benten. The day they ate Yasaburo's father it looks like.

After Benten left Yodogawa and Yasaburo sit down and eat some rice balls together. We find out that Yodogawa eats everything for research, no jokes please it is a lovely little moment between the two characters. "Well not poisonous stuff. Else you die." Thanks Yodogawa for that pearl! "To eat is to love" I do like this character. His character is a bit of a weird one but I feel his heart is in the right place.

So not only did this guy save Yasaburo's mother he also talked to his father before he was killed. It is a very cute moment...

After getting the old man home Yasaburo turns into a frog to see his brother. He tells his brother how he can't hate the old man even though he ate his father.

Benten is actually not half as nasty as she makes out, she sits next to the old guy to take a photo with him. She is a wonderful character all around. I quite like learning about her, I'd like to know why the professor decided to take her and teach her and also (obviously) what happened to make her the way she is. It seems it hasn't actually been that long that she acted that way.

The episode was better, I really liked the pace of it and how much we really learnt about the characters. It was a nice little episode. As you've probably guessed I really like learning about Benten so any episode that revolves around her (and has a real story) is good enough for me.

Though next week it looks like we're moving away from the character growth of Benten and onto some more mishaps with Yasaburo's family! Which I have to say I'm excited for.

The soundtrack is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard and it adds so much more to the series. It is just beautiful in general the whole anime, but it is lifted to infinity by the soundtrack which is perfect. It brings a lot of emotion to each scene and I love listening to it.

Again even though we get hints of the past with Benten and Yasaburo's father and some really weird development on the old man there wasn't much to the episode, it was just a lot of fun to watch and had some really sweet moments.

I think I like how human the series is, you can nearly forget it is an animation the way the characters act and move. They have their moments but I could easily see this being made with real people in the roles, it just has so much character to it. I'm impressed with how its been able to keep my interest, to be honest I wasn't too sure about it at first but now I love all the characters, and yes, especially the frog down the well!

I'm really interested to see where this series goes, I love how they've explored a layer and I mean ONE layer of Benten and that we might delve even deeper. I hope they keep this up through the series.

A great episode all round!
