Mawaru Penguindrum : The Wheel That Spins Us Round

Episode 12

So last episode was a bit of a confusing one and we have a few loose ends to tie up and a whole bunch of new questions.

What the hell is going on?!?!?!?!?!!!

!!!!

!

***SPOILERS***

So someone hates the word fate, turns out it is the pink haired guy with two black bunnies. He has now given us more questions with just a small pre-title sequence appearance, thanks pink haired guy! I forget your name but you really helped our confused state of mind thanks!

Kanba gets home and finds the stuffed cabbage waiting for him. He gets a phone call from the pink haired guy who tells him that Himari will die again tonight.

So apparently Sho's parents were at fault for the accident that happened 16 years ago. And it seems only one boy was born, so Kanba and Sho WEREN'T born on the same day? Confused.

So Sho's dad initiated a "Survival Strategy". Tabuki was meant to get a train with Momoka but his alarm never went off, by the time he got to the train station there is a crowd of people outside being told to stay calm. There has been an accident in the station. An explosion.

We get a scene at Momoka's funeral. Very sad.

The fated day is approaching because the black bunnies are out and about?

And there she goes, it looks like Himari is once again about to die. She tells them to stop someone but doesn't have a chance to tell them who.

We get a flashback of Himari trying to get Kanba to make up with Sho.

Sho tells Ringo a story about Mary and her three lambs and the Golden apple tree which withered and died. The story tells of two black bunnies who told Mary to go borrow some ashes from the flame of the Goddess so Mary went and stole the ashes.

Kanba had given Himari part of his life but it has run out and so the spirit is heading back to the destination of fate, Kanba offers her the rest of his life but it only works the once though it seems his determination means she'll be able to take more from him.

Sho's story ends with Mary being punished, the Goddess chose the smallest and youngest lamb (Himari) and killed her. Punishment has to be the most unjust and #3 fades away, but pink haired guy enters the room with his two bunnies.

I feel this is starting to lead towards the end, we have a good 10 episodes left but it feels like this is the start of the end.

So Himari is obviously not going to stay dead, the pink haired guy is here to do something that will either keep her alive or move the character somewhere else with him.

What is this all about?

We never have had an explanation for why Himari needed Ringo's diary, or why Ringo's diary is called the Penguindrum or what a Penguindrum actually is!

We did get an explanation to what Sho was saying last time.

So what did his parents actually do? They killed a load of people, so are they terrorists? Why would normal people (as they seemed) go and kill a load of innocent people for no reason?!

The story as always is evolving and always changing its focus, I'm totally and utterly lost at this point but I still find a lot of fun second guessing what is going to happen. I never do get it right!

I really enjoyed the story that Sho was telling, it was basically the story of them three, but as we still don't actually know what is wrong with Himari...

So many questions so little answers!

Right now I feel like I'm running in circles, it is that confusing. I really can't wait to find out more but as the episodes pile up we get more and more questions, more wild plot strands and so many WTF moments that I'm not sure I'm keeping up!

It is unique in its own way that even the most confusing anime's usually have a point, this has a point but it kind of wiggles its way towards, away and around that point.

Again I greatly enjoyed the episode and what we got, as I said Sho's story was sweet, Kanba trying to give up his life for Himari was sweet and the other guy is just cool. The episodes are all good and will be much more enjoyable when we finally get an answer.

What the hell is going on people?!
