Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka : No, It's a Vampire Ninja

Episode 2

Last week we met the main cast, we found out that Ayuma was turned into a zombie by Eu (a Necromancer) and that after meeting Haruna he also became a magical girl... Technically called a Maso-Shoujo.

His life was ruined at the end of episode 1 when all his friends saw him in a pink dress.

Now for episode 2.

***SPOILERS***

We start this weeks encounter with a flashback to the night Ayuma was killed and brought back by Eu.

After the dark episode we go back to where we left off last week, and boy does Ayuma not help himself buy running like a girlie!

He wasn't ruined apparently he was able to use his magical powers (as a magical girl) to wipe the schools memory. He tells us that there have been no Megalo attack for over a week. Haruna made him lunch and it is so delicious there has to be something wrong. He ends up with everyone else's lunch whilst they eat Haruna's.

At home Haruna is telling him that she is a genius. Eu is sat at her normal table waiting to be fed by Ayuma.

More Ayuma/Eu fantasies. He is one weird man. It seems that Ayuma's rice is so good that everyone wants more and more.... Suddenly though there is some weirdo sitting asking for Miso soup. Seraphim, she apparently likes the Tsubamegaeshi secret sword technique.

Quick aside on wiki Eu is called Eu but I have a feeling last blog I spelt it Yuu which is the way the sub spells it. It is the same with Kuko/Kuuko in Nyaruko, in the sub there is the double u but on wiki there is only one. I've started to spell it the anime way but kept the tag as a single u. For the tag on this blog I'll probably use her full name (no way of getting it wrong) but in here I might change from calling her Eu and Yuu depending n if I'm just writing the name from on screen and forget that the rest of the time I'm saying Eu. So sorry for any confusion.

Back to Seraphim (and her rather large chest), she's came to ask for Eu's help, for Eu to go with her to the Vampire Ninja village. Eu just wants Ayuma to send her away. Eu tells Sera that Ayuma is her servant so Sera asks to be Eu's servant, Eu tells her she only needs one (remember Eu only writes she doesn't talk) so Sera challenges the useless fool Ayuma to a fight to find out who will be Eu's servant.

In the graveyard things start to look bad for Ayuma, Haruna is just standing around watching.

The Tsubamegaeshi secret sword technique is quite cool I have to admit that one. Plus she's a ninja so she... Ninja's about the place. The match is quite cool as well as being funny. Sera admits defeat and returns... Home?

Well Ayuma's home. She's decided to become "this disgusting mans" servant. Oh Ayuma....

So the house has a Necromancer, Zombie, Maso-Shoujo and now a vampire ninja under one roof.

After getting into bed Sera asks Ayuma to try and get Eu to change her mind about helping her. We then get a flashback to the first FIRST time that Ayuma and Eu meet. What kind of stupid line is "do you believe in UFO's?" and then Ayuma did some stupid dance thing and pretty much broke his wrist. What kind of fool is he? Well Eu thought it was interesting but also told him never to do it again. It broke the ice but he looked like a fool.

"A suspicious idiot" was what Eu thought he was.

It was on his way home that he heard a break in, saw the blood, went to help and was killed. It really did show Ayuma's bravery, there must have been magic at work because he couldn't move, knowing there was a serial killer on the loose he still went into a bloody house. No wonder Eu brought him back.

We go back to the breakfast table miso soup and rice. Sera tells them all about the war that her people are in the middle of. Haruna tells Ayuma to go die and gets a slap from Eu who tells her that death is painful. As a sorry Haruna gives Eu the omelette that she made Ayuma.

One thing I have to say about this series is the music choice is wonderful, the sad moment at the end was even more heartbreaking because of the use of music. I mean there is only so much  that you can do with the written word and a little look but they manage to pull it off.

I mean Eu doesn't talk, she hardly changes her expression but you feel for the character, you don't even know why yet. But it is right in your head from day one that there must be a reason why Eu isn't talking and seeing her react the way she did to someone casually wanting someone else dead. Eu we love you!

The episode was wonderful, it goes from light to dark to light to dark with such effortless ease. Some animes really don't get it right but this one really does.

And Sera! What an addition, I love how serious she is but the fact she just calls Ayuma a piece of shit and disgusting stops you from taking her so serious. There is a story to be told there that I can't wait to see unfold! What do they need Eu for? What about this war?

Haruna is a lovely character too, at the moment she is one big punchline but she has her moments. I think because she's quite young and at the moment there are a lot of jokes being made with her character that when we get the serious moments with her (like at the end of the episode) it'll hit us even more harder.

This will be a absolute wonder to watch unfold I can tell you that!

I like how it is building suspense for the story line without losing any fun within the episode. I also love how you've got this surreal home background (zombie, necromancer, magic girl and vampire ninja all under one roof) and then you have his school life.

The episode also worked a bunch because there was no threat. They had to introduce Sera but they did it by having her purely react to the characters around her.

The episode seemed to fly by it was so well put together. Can't wait to see what happens next week!
