Last week was back to its wonderful best so what has this week got in stall for us in the eccentrically mad world of Nyaruko?
***SPOILERS***
The episode starts with Kuuko sniffling about Nyaruko being so mean whilst playing cards. Poor Kuuko.
Apparently they are playing for the contract that Mahiro gave to Kuuko last episode when they had changed bodies. Mahiro saves the day sucking up the cards with a cyclone hoover his mother has been given by Hasuta.
Really starting to enjoy the opening music now as well just so you know, now that I'm over the change!
Finally someone asks about the room that Nyaruko bought in episode 1.
We get to see each persons room, Hasuta has a normal but yellow room. Kuuko's is covered ceiling to floor with Nyaruko posters/figures. Nyaruko's is a whole bloody house! Cue Nyaruko "spilling" tea over Mahiro, acting "concerned" then tricking him to being naked in a bath room with her.
They have a heart to heart in the bath tub. Of course Kuuko finds them, burns the door away and starts a fight with Nyaruko.
After the fighting (and punishment) is over there is a knock on the door and Mahiro opens it to find someone pointing at his head and telling him he is already dead before running to Kuuko and sexually attacking her. Kuune is the name, Kuukos cousin is the game.........
It turns out that she is an inspector. It turns out that when Kuuko was a little kid she agreed to marry Kuune, but only because Kuune told her to say it. She nearly lets slip that she is in love with Nyaruko but as that would bring shame on the whole family so she recovers by telling Kuune she is in love with "Boy"... Mahiro in other words.
It turns out that if she didn't say that then she'd have to leave the house and she seems to love it there with Mahiro and the rest of them (and we love you too Kuuko!!!) so Mahiro agrees to help her out and so does his mum and Hasuta. She gets Nyaruko to agree by giving her the written contract.
A really lovely moment ended in quite a funny joke by Kuuko about getting into a three way relationship. Without all the Nyaruko stuff in her room Kuuko's room is actually quite sweet! But Kuune doesn't believe it so Kuuko decides to sleep with Mahiro. That is stopped of course and it turns out that Kuuko does like the Boy after all (but probably not in that way still).
Another really strong episode. Kuuko seems to have found her feet again after totally being mis-written in the first couple episodes. It was nice that the whole over the top Tamao/Nyaruko thing was missed out for a week though I am sad that Tamao will probably never be on Mahiro's radar what with his now "pretend" relationship with Kuuko and what looks like serious heartbreak for Nyaruko next episode which might tip him over the edge of love with her (please don't let it be so!)
It is nice that we are actually getting episodes that are actually exploring the characters without some ridiculous backdrop story. I enjoy those stories, I loved the whole of series 1, but so far they haven't worked out well for series 2 and actually I want to see these lot together more. I'd really like more episodes with no peril just Mahiro and that gang hanging out, throw in the other two and I'd be a happy bunny.
Kuuko is back to being my favorite character, she is also back to being probably the more intelligent of the bunch. They've taken back a lot of the over the top girliness but kept a little bit of it (the sniffling is actually cute) but they've also made that step back with all the characters and the jokes.
Kuune looks like she'll be a fun character to add to the series and I'd like to see her story progress more.
I loved that we got to see inside everyone's new rooms, I had been wondering about them. I was worried we'd never actually get to see inside the bedrooms and they'd be forgotten but it is nice to see them.
I think the episodes are getting slowly better this season and can't wait to see how this whole Kuuko/Mahiro thing goes, though as I said with tears and serious looking Nyaruko next week I think the way is being paved for Mahiro/Nyaruko actually coupling up.
I really will need to make a whole blog up about that at some point!
Another really nice episode with some really nice jokes. They can do it without being over the top and this is just the proof we needed!
