Haiyore! Nyaruko-San : He Waits, Dreaming

Episode 12

The last episode of the first series.

Where is Mahiro-san and how will he be saved?

***SPOILERS***

So we obviously start off were we left off. He's home on his own on Sunday even though he just lived through Sunday. He's trying to rationalize it but I don't think its working out for him.

When he goes out all the streets are empty, he is totally and utterly alone. He tries to phone his friend no answer but we do get to see Ghutatan sitting around in a building so obviously Ghutatan is with him here in the emptiness. She just hasn't let him be seen.

He starts to miss Nyaruko, then Kuko and then Hasuta. They became more then just friends to him. It is kind of like the ultimate lesson really, you might want to be on your own but in the end you'd miss them (the annoying friends you can't shake off) when they are gone.

Cue lots of flashbacks, revisiting locations in the series, key points etc.

Suddenly he is being attacked by a giant Nightgaunt.  In fact it is pretty much exactly as it was in the first episode when Nyaruko saved him, he's realizes that he has always had to rely on them and then the Mirror of whatever Nyaruko called it shows up in his pocket. After the Nightgaunt disappears Ghutatan comes running in apologizing.

Then the butler turns on them, he turns into some giant tentacled (well it is Lovecraft what ya expect?) fish thing.

Yeah and Nyaruko suddenly just turns up to save the day.

Mahiro is actually trapped and Nyaruko free's him. He was petrified and it turns out everyone started kissing him..... And Nyaruko has a Nyaruko puppet. And this is all because of the bloody game from the other episode. Apparently because Mahiro hangs out with a maniac like Nyaruko he must be a ultramaniac... Well that is exactly how I'd put it!

It ends up being a big fight with everyone ever to be part of the team. Mum shows up, Luhy shows up... Pretty cool. For a change Mahiro saves Nyaruko, well he does it by throwing her crowbar at him, the crowbar then turns into a sword, a very bloody big sword.

And with that the final big battle boss is completed.

Yes Mahiro another terrible punchline.

It ends with Mahiro being cuddled by everyone and over the credits basically a montage showing us their life carried on the way it had been going and that Ghutatan came to live on Earth with them.

So yes the series has ended.

Thoughts?

Well the episode itself was alright, the beginning bit was a bit too long the resolution a bit too predictable and under explained and the ending was pitch perfect. Together it was a brilliant episode, a lot better than the last episode. If it was me I'd have done the Mahiro on his own a little shorter (some of the flashbacks were just unneeded) and had a little bit better explanation. Just because it is a comedy doesn't mean that it couldn't do a poignant moment or two in the final episode.

Again it is down to personal taste and maybe I'm asking for too much. I love the series for the series and it did what the series did best so I can't really complain.

I loved the butler as a bad guy and it stuck with the theme that the only reason we're interesting on Earth is because of our entertainment. So it was all good!

It was also super nice to see Luhy and Mummy come home and the group actually being a proper group.

If I wasn't writing this before I started reviewing series two I'd be sitting here wishing for a series two as it is a really different (to what I watch) and really fresh anime. I enjoy it immensely, I overanaylis it when I'm reviewing it as coming on here after each episode saying its brilliant won't do much other than bore people (and myself to be honest) but it is a series that you just watch to be entertained and it does that wonderfully!

I'll have a full "Series One" thing up before the review for the first episode of Haiyore! Nyaruko-San W.

Thanks for reading!
