Doctor Who 50th Anniversary (yet another blog...)

... And expect more in the coming months!

Anyway below the cut away is some speculation based on rumors heard about what could happen in the 50th, so if you don't want to know anything about what has been seen during filming and mild spoilers (what could end up being a big spoiler if it turns out to be true) and so on don't look!

So the latest speculation is that John Hurt will be playing a "lost" regeneration.

A source claimed it to be a spoiler mere hours before we saw John Hurt on set wearing a similar leather jacket to Christopher Eccleston's Doctor.

So how do I feel about this possible spoiler?

Personally I love it! I have seen that many people are moaning about it ("why not just have Paul McGann", "What a slap in the face to classic who fans" etc) but personally as a Classic Who fan I love the idea.

I've heard a lot of people say that he could be a forgotten regeneration linked to the Time War, now there are a lot of bits and pieces in the series that would say that Doctor hasn't forgotten the Time War so why would he have forgotten his real "9th" incarnation?

It is hard to write around that (many more clever people have) personally I think it would be interesting if he was so strained by the Time War that he suddenly went a bit insane and did something horrendous during the Time War, so not really forgotten in the sense the Doctor doesn't remember it but forgotten in the sense that the Doctor wants to wipe him from his memory.

The Doctor remembers the pain of what he did but maybe there is a deeper, darker part of the Time War that the Doctor had a hand in?

Personally I prefer the idea that Hurts Doctor could be a "forgotten" Doctor (or whatever word you'd use for it) in a different way.

The Doctor has been kind of "erasing" himself from history in the last series since he got too big in series 6 so what if one of his enemies decided to erase him (The Silence would be a perfect example of a bad guy that they could use to do this as that is kind of what they were trying to do in the first place) say that splinters time or some such thing. If it changes the time at all, even for just one adventure it could produce a new Doctor, or else even have one (and this is were Classic Doctors could be brought back) aged?

I know the spoiler/rumor was that Hurts Doctor would slot basically between McGann and Eccleston but I'd think it would be cool if he was Eccleston's Doctor from a splinter/alternate reality were he never met Rose. Heck it could even make him the bad guy of the anniversary piece, but if he's aged then why couldn't Tom Bakers incarnation have lived a little longer? Same goes for the others, the only one unaffected would be Ten... So why would Ten be unaffected  Because he possibly was there when time was splintered? Or else the beacon calling the other Doctors to help could have reached him before he regenerated but others later in their newer life streams?

The possibilities are literally endless with this. He could be Dream Lord/Valeyard material.

Of course he could also have nothing to do with the Doctor at all..........

But were would the fun in not speculating be?
