Neverwhere : Earls Court

Last episode Richard, Door, the Marquis and Hunter set out on their way to find the Angel Islington. In the streets of London Below Richard Mayhew was on the journey of his life not quite sure what to believe and probably confused out of his mind after being introduced to the weird and wonderfully magical world of the people around him.

What will happen next to the group and do they find Islington?

***SPOILERS***

This week starts with Islington, so that made a very happy Anna as I got to listen to Benedict Cumberbatch singing.

Richard is finding life in London Below as hard as ever and the group are trying to  help him in their own way. Again the characters are endearing from the start of the episode, you feel for Richard who is completely lost in this world. the Marquis is brilliantly sarcastic and the two seem to have hit it off brilliantly.

Richard gives us a update via his "non-existent" diary. And here you go Richard "he wants to go home" Sorry I can only underline it once for you though. He makes it sound all very wizard of Oz. If only he can get to the angel Islington he might be able to go home.

The group is off to see Earls Court, a friend and ally of Doors father.

Croup is getting his orders over the phone and is not happy to find out that he can't kill the up worlder (Richard), as creepy as ever the two are the biggest problems facing Door and her friends.

Hunter once again saves Richard from something that lives within the gaps, apparently they only attack people from below. Another piece of magical mystery surrounding London Below.

They get on board of the Earls carriage (voiced by Christopher Lee), the Earl has his Jester to help him (Andrew Sachs) and the two of them are quite a duo. In fact the whole introduction to the Earl is rather funny. Listening to the Earl was a wonder, Lee has such a wonderful voice and it was nice to hear him stuttering as a bit of a grumpy old man. It seems that the Marquis and the Earl don't get on very well so Marquis gets off the train and says he'll meet them up the line leaving Richard, Door and Hunter with the Earl.

When the fun and games are over Door asks him the question she's came to ask, how to find the Angel Islington.

What is the Marquis up to? Something to do with Croup and Vandermar....

The Angel Islington. To get to him you have to go the long way... Well unless you are an opener like Door were you just need to use the Angelas (not sure of the spelling sorry) apparently.

Christopher Lee was wonderful, I really did enjoy his part it was funny but serious in its way. He had to help them to get to were they are going but he and his jester made me laugh.

Anyway Marquis has gone to see Old Bailey, he trades some items for information, information on an amulet that he took from Doors fathers home. The Old Bailey gives us a story about the Beast of London. Bernard Cribbins is as wonderful as ever with his shoeses and his gloveses.

Back with the group Richard is talking to rats apologizing about his guide who was lost to the night. Door is off to London Above but Hunter won't go with her, apparently there is some sort of curse. Hunter is actually quite an interesting character, I quite like her to be honest. She seems like a pretty much strong and sturdy character with her own will. I really wouldn't like to think she'd turn her back on Door which is what I think Marquis is about to do sadly.

Richard is still my favorite character though, his amazement at anything magical is brilliant and his chat to the rat (Mrs Whiskers) was sad and funny at the same time.

Croup and Vandermar catch up with Richard and Door in the British Museum, they try to scare Door and Richard by telling them they have a traitor in their mists and then leaves.

They walk into a room to find a picture of an angel just to find that the room they walk into is full of pictures of angels. What are they going to do now?!

Again this series isn't disappointing, the characters come to life once more and the acting is simply superb!

You never have a problem imagining these people and places in your mind, through a small amount of description it is there inside your mind as clear as if it was on the telly.

Richard is a wonderful character to follow, I said he made it sound very Wizard of Oz and he is very much Dorothy like. You feel for him losing his life (though I have a feeling he'll want to stay with Door afterwards anyway as his life wasn't THAT great) but he takes all this strange and mystical going on's with such a light hearted and positive attitude. You get a lot of characters in other series that get thrown into these kind of situations and all they ever go on about is how their life sucks but Richard doesn't do that, he has a big heart and just wants to help.

The humor is very light and subtle. It could go from one of the most heartbreaking scenes to something quite funny without feeling forced. At the moment it hasn't really done that but if they do I don't think it would jar like it might with other series.

It is currently 2:30am I have listened to the first two episodes and I don't feel like I could sleep without catching up completely, that is how good the series is. Thankfully I haven't got work in the morning so I could quite easily listen to another episode which I will actually do (and review it straight away too!) Really it is this good, you do need to listen if you haven't already!
