Fairy Tail : Naval Battle (Anime)

Episode 171

Last episode Cherie and Wendy tied in their match ending a brilliant day for Fairy Tail at the games.

As the guild celebrate that night what does the fourth day bring?

***SPOILERS***

We join Fairy Tail in the bar, as you would outside of the games. Everyone is a little worse for wear but their spirits are up and Natsu decides to barrel surf... And Gray and Erza follow suit!

Cue spooky music and a quick look at what other people are up to. Sting and Rogue are lounging about, Mato is getting undressed (he isn't really a pumpkin, sad face) Millianna and Kagura are coming to terms with Jellal being Mystogan and Yukino is working with (for) Arcadios!

All whilst Levy reminded us that we have a deadline. 4 days before whatever caused her to write this letter happens. Chilling stuff!

But then we are straight on to day four and the next challenge! Naval Battle! Basically a giant ball of water that the competitors have to get into and stay into, you have to throw your opponents out and the last two standing battle it out with whoever leaves the bubble coming last (instead of second).

The battle is quite good, basically all girls other then Quatro Puppy and the first outing for Minerva. Juvia has a good showing but then lets herself down being crazy and it leaves Minerva and Lucy to battle it out.

I hated this chapter in the manga because to be honest it showed how horrid Minerva is, she basically tortures Lucy before eliminating her from the bubble. It isn't a nice moment.

I did enjoy the battle (and the episode on a whole!) it had some good moments for Lucy and Juvia to show off their skill.

Still I am falling in love with each guild, especially Quatro Puppys response to always being badly beaten!

Even though Jenny has been made out to be quite a bitch I quite like her as well, she seems like an air head but actually fights dirty. I like it!

It did a brilliant job in making me hate Minerva though, there is just nothing to the character other then pure hatred for other people, you don't even really have a reason why she dislikes people she just seems to like it! That is actually a little refreshing as you tend to get these really cool characters who hate everyone and then they get a reason why they hate everyone and it takes the fun out of it a little.

Juvia still made me giggle with her second orgin move "wings of love" Gray-sama love! She can actually be quite cool as well as funny if only they give her the chance. More often then not she is just played purely for laughs.

The episode was good, I don't know if it was just because I know it will end but it did feel like some of the love had been left out. But overall another brilliant episode.
