Chapter 321
So last week we were gearing up for the fight between one of the 10 wizard saints Jura, and Fairy Tails strongest Mage Laxus.
Who will win in the battle of strength?
And how are the others fairing in their own battles?
***SPOILERS***
So this week starts off where last weeks ends, with Laxus and Jura fighting it out.
In fact no it doesn't! It starts on the title page with Millianna feeling "something" on her back. Whether that was a little play on words or whether she is the next victim of the mysterious shadow is unknown I guess.
We go from the hard hitting fight of Laxus and Jura to a flash of what is happening elsewhere. Minvera is surprised when Erza actually lands an attack on her (she thought our Erza would be a push over?), Gray and Juvia are about to give Lyon and Cheria the full power of their team work and Natsu and team are still fighting many MANY foes...
This is all intertwined with a beautiful speech from the first Master Mavis talking about how the strength of the youths are shining through and basically how these youths are the future of the guild.
It ends with Laxus landing the final blow on Jura and sending Fairy Tail soaring to the top of the leaderboard.
I really did love this chapter as it was overly heavy on what could have been in the manga quite a boring fight. In the anime this could be a totally wonderful episode, seeing the brute strength of Laxus and Jura going at it, but I don't think it works that well in the manga. Thankfully it wasn't just full of that, the speech from Mavis taking us around the other fights going on made the whole chapter feel like it was a beginning not an end.
It also made me very proud of Fairy Tail, seeing Erza stand up to Minerva and unleash her full power on her (hopefully next chapter), seeing Laxus able to defeat the wizard ranked 5th in the 10 Great Wizard Saints, seeing Gray and Juvia choose working as a team over trying to defeat possibly stronger foes on their own... It was a really family affair.
Mavis is a wonderful character and I do hope her ghost stays around with Fairy Tail for a while longer. It would be sad to see her disappear after this arc as she obviously loves this period of her guild and the feeling they have together. Her and Makarov together makes me laugh, she makes him uncomfortable by just being human, its really cute!
I feel this is really starting to gear us up maybe not for the end of the arc but at least for the big game changing twist. There are still so many components, some I guess will probably end up in the next arc instead, but it feels like after the games ends something else will only just be beginning....
