Karneval : Flightless Wings

Episode 4

Gareki (spelt right!) was taken last episode, how will Yogi and Nai get him back?

***SPOILER***

Well in the end it wasn't Yogi but Queen of the Crown, Second Ship Fighter, National Defense Organization, Circus, Iva. Yes she attacked with sparkly gems! I don't like her though as she beat up Yogi, booooo! Yogi kept on being cute, hugging Gareki's head and begging for forgiveness. It just so happens that Iva was looking for for a Varuga but after losing it she took her anger out on the "bestial" Varuga.

Akari is the name of the doctor with them, I don't think I told you his name in episode 3! He is a seriously cool character.

So they finally get back to looking in the cave that Nai brought them too, it was lived in so Akari and Yogi get on with searching the cave for clues.

It seems that Karoku is alive and the people (is that the granddaughter from episode one?) are looking for Gareki because he's "interested" in him.

Back in the cave and Yogi and Akari find a book hidden behind a rock.

Gareki asks to go back to a nearby town were he lived so Yogi and Nai go with him, there is a cute scene were Yogi tries to win a bracelet but can't so Gareki wins it for him. And whilst they are leaving a girl who knew Gareki comes up to him and tells him that she's killed a man.

We find out that Gareki was sold by his parents, he was the smallest kid in the group and was bullied and had his food taken off him. It seems he was then saved by someone called Tsubaki who was killed by the man she loved and the girl (and her twin brother) are Tsubaki's younger siblings.

It seems this guy that Tsubaki was in love with experimented on her brother and sister, but in the middle of the night Tsubame (the girl) is seen sleep walking and Gareki, Yogi and Nai follow her.

It turns out that Yotaka (Tsubaki's brother) was the one that killed her... But we'll have to wait till next week to find out more!

Another very strong story, this time it changed its focus more to Gareki. It seems that Gareki's story is going to be the saddest one there is.

The story this episode was quite interesting, I'm really not sure what is going on with the Karoku stuff but it'll be interesting to see just who he is and just what he wants! He seems jealous of Gareki's relationship with Nai, then again it'll be interesting to find out why and how comes he even knows about it.

At last Nai has grown on me, the fact he is now totally like Gareki's little brother is so cute, him tugging on him and refusing to leave his side was funny. Other than him finding Karoku I'm not too interested in much more of his story though to be honest, he just seems a nice, sweet character.

Gareki I knew from episode one was going to be interesting and this episode started to flesh him out, of course we now understand why he's untrusting and cold to people with a past like his.

The story with his two friends and the kids being drugged (because the kids that bullied him were being fed something that "changed" them as well) is interesting and I wonder if it isn't all the same as the experiment that made Nai and the people making Varugas.

The story of the twins (and Gareki) will be a sad one no doubt, by the reaction of Yogi I don't think there is a way to reverse what happened to them, plus Gareki is determined to kill the person who killed Tsubaki and that is Yotaka. I feel bad for Gareki having to decide what to do, though if the two of them (Yotaka and Tsubame) are killing people and in anyway dangerous I guess it will be Yogi's job to kill them anyway. Sad, sad story and something very deep and meaningful for a 4th episode of a series!

We've traveled a long way from episode 1 already and so much has been explained. It has gone a long way to flesh out the two main characters and add some lightness to the proceedings  I think that is the one good thing about the series is that as serious as it'll get the Circus lot are so over the top that there will be a light hearted tone at the back of the episodes. The best example of this is Yogi, when Gareki was telling his story he lightened the mood trying to hug Gareki.

I really have been enjoying this series it is different from a lot of the things that I watch. It has its strange moments but it is just a very enjoyable series.

I love Yogi by the way, I'll have to add this to every review because he is just a wonderful character. "Let me embrace you" will be something close to Men... But not quite. To be honest he has the charm of Ichiya, I don't mean that in the story I mean I love Ichiya because he is just an inoffensive character and very sweet (though disgusting and annoying to other characters) Yogi is very similar though I'd add that he is less played for laughs and most of the comedy of him comes out of him being very immature. I'm sure we'll see a more mature side of him at some point though!
