Haiyore! Nyaruko-San : Nyaruko's Exciting High School

Episode 8

Last episode Mahiro and Nyaruko went on their first date. With their friends at the beach what more is in store for them on their holiday?

***SPOILER***

This episode they are out shopping and Nyaruko is crawling up to Mahiro's mother!

Whilst stopped at a shop that is selling video games (don't forget as well as Kuko, Mahiro's mother is obsessed with them) Mahiro picks up a handheld console. Everyone gathers around it as Mahiro turns it on...

Mahiro wakes up in his own bedroom. Everything is weird, he crashes into Nyaruko on his way to school who bursts into tears and runs away, even Kuko is acting weird and in seems to have something for Mahiro. Hasuta is probably even weirder as he has suddenly turned into a proper little boy playing basketball. Yoichi is talking automatically like some kind of bot the only person making sense is Luhy.

She explains that he has been sucked into the game in the console, to make matters worse it is a dating game. Luhy tells him he has to get a good ending with someone else they'll be stuck in the game and then Luhy is gone. His only link to reality.

Nyaruko isn't as "changed" as she seemed, hiding under a bed in infirmary she overhears and realizes this is the chance she has to make him fall in love with her. In fact they all are just their normal selves (Hasuta wants him to love him and Kuko wants Mahiro to love Hasuta).

So the characters are all back to normal from last episode, all doing their best to make Mahiro fall in love with them.

Oh and then Kuko pulls a giant sword out of her skirt... I'd hate to think were she actually kept it. But then he flashes to a new event were Nyaruko is dressed as a bunny girl and singing to him.

Yes this episode is back to the weird and wonderful the series does so well.

Even mum snaps out of it when he gets home.

So Mahiro plays the game and takes them all out on dates. Including Hasuta.

The Christmas presents are... Well... Perfect really.

A hand made Hasuta doll, sexy lingerie for Nyaruko and a marriage registration form. You can guess who gave what. To be fair Nyaruko then gave Mahiro a hand knitted scarf.

Thing is the episode seems to have forgotten Tamao who was also one of the options.

Whilst Hasuta, Nyaruko and Kuko fighting over him Tamao gets her chance. It turns out she likes him too, or is it just a joke?

So who won?

Nyaruko obviously.

To be honest it would have been a lot more fun if it had been Tamao, but it meant that a kiss was forced out of Mahiro. And again the serious Nyaruko appears. For all the fun the episode has been this moment under the tree ruins it a little for me. I have no problem really with him falling in love with Nyaruko but to be honest I found it charming because it was unrequited love.

Thankfully no one but Mahiro can remember what happened in the game.

The episode was one better than last episode. At least it had the comedy back and a story to follow. It wasn't just there to be a Nyaruko/Mahiro falling in love episode which I felt last week tried to force on us.

I would really have preferred that Tamao won the game, it was really obvious and forced that it would be Nyaruko. I also would have liked for Mahiro to have that normal anchor with Tamao which is missing. They need to keep Nyaruko/Kuko/Hasuta alien else the series won't feel the same.

An improvement, I liked the fact they were sucked into a game, there is a lot of gaming references and all sorts in the series and as a gamer I do love having a series that goes into that like this one does.

This episode highlights what I love about the series though to be fair if it wasn't for last episode this would be better in my mind. In fact this would have been perfect to get the message and story across that the last episode didn't. It still had the fun moments, it didn't feel AS forced, the reason it felt forced at all was because of the last episode. It was a nice light episode with no real "bad guy" and was a good giggle.

It is episode like this that they need to keep on with!
