Haiyore! Nyaruko-San : Lost Girl from the Stars

Episode 11

Last week the group defeated the Space Child Guardian who was trying to destroy Earth because of the naughty messages our Entertainment holds.

Yeah bad us! We can learn from this!

How will Mahiro cope in the penultimate episode of the first series, I mean the whole school already think he's in love with Nyaruko!

***SPOILERS***

Mahiro just wants a quiet and simple life cue the introduction to the aliens all playing video games in his bedroom on a Sunday morning.

The kiss is still haunting him too from last episode. He is only just saved by the doorbell and the introduction of "the young lady of the Ghatanothoa Conglomerate, Ghutatan" and her flying butler, Roy Fogger the Lloigor. They've been sent to Mahiro's house by his mum.

Another alien!

Plus did anyone catch a name for the sting ray thing that Shantak is friends with that is currently traveling with Mahiro's mum? Never did I catch a name or even anyone other than Shantak acknowledging his existence! Never mind...

The new additions are quite cute, she is a little girl (who already is calling Nyaruko sissy) and he's just a little green bat thing. We also find out that Nyaruko's "special education" will probably get someone else to come and try and kill our planet off like last episode.

Whilst everyone is trying to look aftre Ghutatan we see (the audience that is) that Nyaruko's text hasn't sent. Dum, dum, dum, duuuuuuum....

Yeah I'm writing sound effects now, sound effects are cool (Doctor Who AND Deep Blue Sea related. 10 points for anyone who knows why).

Men

Sorry another anime just got stuck in my head. Nyaruko would be proud for how random this review is becoming. Anyone on with the episode! (You'll be happy to know that the next anime I'll be blasting out reviews for is probably going to be about a zombie or else Penguindrum..... More randomness!)

Anyway!

Two big spiky slug things are crawling around on the roofs, goodness knows what they are but at the moment they are going unnoticed as Nyaruko hands Ghutatan (who is a little girl) a sex game thing... Yeah I'm sure we don't have them in the UK, or at least I've never seen one so I am slightly intrigued by it all. But Ghutatan is so cute being disappointed to have her naughty game taken away from her. Poor Ghutatan.

For some reason the sex jokes are being ramped up in this episode but never mind its all fun. And also Nyaruko's cooking now includes living bugs.

The Mirror of Nitrocrisis... I have a feeling that it will be important.

Mahiro suddenly has a big brother moment with Ghutatan looking after her.

Kuko is really good in this episode as all she wants is breakfast and she goes all evil like over breakfast! She is super cute.

Finally after all the running about Mahiro comes face to face with Shoggath, the slug things from earlier. In the fighting Ghutatan falls off of Mahiro's back and scratches herself which upsets Mahiro and gets him angry with Nyaruko, Kuko and Hasuta.

............... He wakes up at 7am on Sunday. But it was just Sunday. He notices too. Everything is too quiet. The house is still empty. All he wanted was a quiet life.... Looks like he's got one.

Right let me get this little rant out of the way before I write my feelings about the episode...

The one thing I don't like about this episode, and it is a minor thing that only minorly upsets me, is the over the place character development/regression. Halfway through the series we're given a more serious and thought provoking Nyaruko, we're lead to believe that Mahiro might find something in her, might not be so nasty to her all the time. Then after one day of being "big brother" to Ghutatan he can be so cold to Nyaruko and the others EVEN THOUGH we've already had at least 2 episodes of him coming to terms with how hard it must be for Nyaruko (and in extension the other two) to protect him all the time. Yes what he has said is true and it needs to be said (in a way) but the episodes seem too out of place for it. The stories are always the same really, he wants a quiet life but then figures out that he likes the aliens or else he takes them for granted then realizes he has and takes it back. So why when we've had 10 episodes of this would he be like that?

Now do not read that wrong, I still think that the series is great it is a minor thing that gets on my nerves sometimes. The thing with the series is it really plays on the comedy. There are other comedy animes/TV shows that at least have an overall plot point. This series is really self contained episodes that sometimes branches into 2 or 3 episodes but which really doesn't follow on any of the development TO A POINT. It doesn't make it unwatchable, it just makes Nyaruko's character feel like its flopping around a bit.

Personally like the one were they go out on the date this episode was rather a low point. Not in the same way though, the ending was a brilliant cliffhanger, something that actually kind of scared me in a way. He'd wished to be on his own and suddenly he's stuck in Sundays on his own. Not only is it scary there is that whole question of what the heck is happening?!

Before all that it just seemed like aimless jokes/humor thrown at the story and whatever stuck stayed. Ghutatan and Mahiro's interaction was sweet, then we had the chasing scene followed by the fight were Nyaruko and co probably put their lives at risk for Mahiro and Ghutatan and just because this new "little sister" is on the scene and got hurt Mahiro goes totally out of character and really is quite cold to the people who are actually his friends now.

The beginning jokes were alright and the point of the chase scene would have been fine if it didn't feel out of character for Mahiro to then lose his temper with them all and act quite a git towards them.

That being said it builds good tension towards the final episode so many questions to be answered.

Still love the series, this isn't by any means a "this series is terrible" kind of problem its just a personal thing I've picked up on (that probably 9 out of 10 viewers won't agree with or notice) that I probably shouldn't worry about so much as I doubt its meant to be looked at in such a serious way.

The great things about this episode were Ghutatan and her butler though, two great characters. Made me giggle.

Oh and Luhy on her never ending job search. I love Luhy and love that she's kept coming back for cameo's I really think she's a brilliant character.

So this is it... Going into the last episode. See you tomorrow!
