Soul Eater : A quick catch up

So I haven't actually reviewed any of Soul Eater (I don't think) so I thought I'd write this quick round up of were we are. We only get one chapter a month (ONE CHAPTER!!!!) but I'll still write a review.

***SPOILERS : This blog post will have mega spoilers on the whole of Soul Eater, don't read unless you don't care or have already read it***

So Soul Eater is about student weapon techs and their weapons. They work for Shinigami (death) and are working to make a Death Scythe.

The weapon doesn't have to be an actual scythe to become a Death Scythe by the way.

The main characters:
Maka and Soul
Black Star and Tsubaki
Death the Kid and Liz & Patty Thompson

Maka, Black Star and Kid are all weapon techs, Soul is a scythe, Tsubaki is a shadow weapon and Liz and Patty are twin guns.

The weapons turn into real people as well by the by.

The "teachers" include Makas dad the current Death Scythe, Shinigami himself, Dr Franken Stein (Death Sycthes original partner and a weapon tech that suffers from madness) and Sid (a zombie).

There are other characters who for the purpose of a quick round up aren't that important but who are important for the story (to a point.)

The only other people you need to know about at the moment (as the last chapter only revolves around the main story) are Medusa (a witch), Corona (a weapon tech who was injected with black blood by his mum Medusa and who as of this moment hasn't been confirmed as male or female, long story), Ragnorak (Corona's weapon which is like a dark demon blade thing that is actually a part of Corona because of his black blood) and the Kishin (the bringer of madness.)

Oh and Excalibur...

I liked this series because straight off the bat they did individual chapters focused on the main characters and introducing all the small bits and pieces that you needed to know.

Now this might all sound quite heavy and dark but this series is brilliant at mixing darkness with some of the most funny moments.

Maka and her fathers relationship is always fun to see, Death the Kid, being the Shinigamis son, has an OCD about symmetry which can lead to great moments and Black Star the loud mouthed assassin who announces his arrival... Kind of missing the point a bit.

But even within in a short period of time we'd learned that these characters are all a lot deeper than just students, or big mouths or show offs. They have a dark side, they stick together and they want to work hard to do what they believe is right.

The current story then...

The current story revolves around the Kishin. It is all a bit confusing to write about, but the Shinigami trapped him under the school using his life force (or something like that) but Medusa the witch freed him and made him stronger with black blood. He then went off and they had a bit more of a to-do with Medusa.

At the moment we are on the moon fighting the Kishin (who reappeared) to stop him from covering the world in madness.

That is basically the quick catch up.

I'll do something more in depth at the end of the story arc or sometime when I've read the current story through again. But it is the general gist of it.
