Episode 13
Well we know who the mastermind is, we know about the Despair Sisters. Now how will we survive?
***SPOILERS***
So Junko goes on and on about herself and her sister and shows them what is "going on" in the outside world (which seems to be everything growing a Monokuma head for some odd reason), the truth might be hidden in their lost memories.
Again Naegi shows surprising intelligence and points out that Fukawa's memories might be gone but Genociders possibly isn't so Togami calls out Genocider who tells them about the "Biggest and Baddest Despair-Ridden Incident in Human History" (where everyone grew a Monobear head...)
Junklo tells Togami that his family is all dead, she also tells them they've been in the academy for two years (come on guys it isn't hard to work out!) and we finally get told the story. They'd been in the school for a year when the disaster happened and after it happened the academy was turned into a shelter for the remaining pupils. The principal kept them there to keep them safe, the principal didn't realize that he had two Despairs in the school so they all locked and bolted themselves in with them.
The punishment doesn't sound too bad, they'd have to live in the academy together forever but they don't seem to like that and neither does Junko so she tells them they can sacrifice Naegi if they want. And everyone actually THINKS about it. Another twist? Well the outside world is contaminated and the school is the last place uncontaminated but if they kill Junko then the air purifier turns off. So we get on with the vote!
After Junko infected them with Despair it is Naegi's turn to infect them with hope.
And Kirigiri tells Naegi the name she believes he really is "Super Duper High School Hope".
Junko loses...
And she's happy about it.
She faces every punishment that she gave out and so it is time for the Super Duper High School Students to leave......
We get a last goodbye from Monobear and a... kind of... hello from a pink rabbit like bear... Thing.
Interesting?
Rounded off the series nicely I think. Enjoyed it a lot and all my questions have been answered which makes me a happy person!
In the dying moments of the series Naegi actually became very interesting and for a change the trial was much more enjoyable because of it, instead of him leaping to giant conclusions he was actually showing us how he worked it out and was actually capable of doing so.
I do think it was ended on a great note and kept the high standard of the series.
I liked the talky episodes a lot so it didn't bother me that it was a talky episode, I didn't like the way Junko communicated to us though, that might sound weird but I mean I just didn't like... The changing, the lack of direct character, the fact she skipped from one thing to another. It wasn't the right reaction, you are meant to dislike Junko (or like her) for her actions, you are meant to judge her on her character but I found myself judging her on her LACK of character. She just seemed very........ Pointless.
In fact when people talk about Clara (Doctor Who) being a "Quip Machine" this is what I imagine that to mean, Clara at least strings a sentence together that has meaning and control in it, Junko babbled and changed personality and babbled some more.
It wasn't pretty.
Seeing the majority of the episode revolved around her it was glaringly obvious how.... Well I don't really know how to say it, undeveloped would be wrong as it would suggest ANY of the characters had been developed at all which would be a lie. Just how.... Not as good (weak I know) she was.
That didn't stop the episode being a great ending to a great series, it didn't have to go out with a bang it went out on, well.... Hope.
We hope that these characters will find some life after the torture they've been through and we hope they accomplish something within the world full of Despair.
Now away from all this and with my morbid cap on...
How cool was Junko's punishment?!
Great episode, great series, shame it is over!
